IPL 7 Match 43: SRH vs KKR – Hits and flops

It was the second game of the super Sunday between Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs. Kolkata Knight Riders. The match had got huge importance for both the teams and in the end, its KKR, who turned to be happier of the two teams. To present things in the most interactive manner, here is a list of the HITS and FLOPS of the game, i.e. the players who valued the most for the result of the game.

FLOPS of the Match

Morne Morkel(KKR): The speedster from KKR, who took 9 wickets for KKR this season, didn’t manage to bowl well tonight. He gave away plenty of runs and was struggling with his length. He could not find any advantage against Warner and Dhawan and they thrashed him for boundaries. He gave away 39 runs in his 4 overs and went wicketless.

Aaron Finch(SRH): It was for yet another time that Aaron Finch could not score high. He was looking completely out of touch today. He edged a ball of Umesh Yadav and it was caught well by Morne Morkel in the third man region. He managed to score just 8 runs off 8 deliveries.

Amit Mishra(SRH): One of the biggest strengths for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in Pepsi IPL 7 has turned to be one of their biggest weaknesses this year. He went for plenty today. He gave away 15 runs in a crucial over in the match. He had given 38 runs in his 4 overs and went wicketless.

Bhuvaneshwar Kumar(SRH): It was just not the day meant for the purple cap holder. He started well in the initial overs and gave 10 runs in his first 2 overs. But when he was brought to bowl the crucial 18th over, he went for 15 runs. He bowled the last over of the innings and failed to defend 10 runs.

HITS of the Match

Umesh Yadav(KKR): The Indian pacer bowled with consistent line and length tonight and got the price of it. He had 5 wickets under his belt prior to today’s match. He dismissed the dangerous opener Aaron Finch right in the very first over he bowled. He also took the wicket of David Warner, who was looking to destroy the KKR bowling. He took 3 wickets in his 4 overs and gave away only 26 runs, which was indeed economical and was adjourned the Man of the Match.

Robin Uthappa(KKR): For once again, Robin Uthappa did set the pillar for the KKR batting. He scored 40 runs off 33 deliveries with 5 fours and a six. He built a strong partnership with Manish Pandey which later proved to be the match winner.

Dale Steyn(SRH): The STEYN GUN was the sole warrior for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He did set the stage for SRH by dismissing Gautam Gambhir early but others failed to capitalize. He also bowled the 19th over and gave just 6 runs. He gave 24 runs in his 4 overs and took a wicket.

Yusuf Pathan(KKR): The big hitter of KKR seems to be back in form. He stayed at the crease when his side needed him the most and won the match for KKR. He did hit some glorious strokes at the deck to keep the required run rate well under reach. He remained unbeaten on 39 runs off 28 deliveries with 2 fours and 2 sixes.

IPL 7, Match 42: CSK vs RCB – Hits and Flops

The first two legs of Pepsi IPL 7 are done and dusted. The third and Final leg of the tournament began today with a mouth-watering clash between Chennai Super Kings Vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore at the JSCA International Cricket Stadium, Ranchi. It was a game with huge excitement and some even called it as the SOUTH INDIAN DERBY. Judging by the league table standings, it was a game with enormous importance for RCB. Let us now have a look at the FLOPS and HITS of today’s match, i.e. the players who contributed to the game’s fate.

FLOPS of the Match:

Dwayne Smith(CSK): The big hitter from West Indies, who won quite a few games for CSK in this IPL and is also the second highest scorer in this IPL with 440 runs(before today’s match), did not manage to carry on with his destruction today. He was dismissed while trying to cut a slightly short of length ball from Aaron. He scored only 9 runs off 15 deliveries.

David Hussey(CSK): David Hussey came into the squad as a replacement of Dwayne Bravo. Although he scored 25 runs but it was rather a slow one. He also disappointed with the ball and went for plenty in his 2nd and 3rd over. He went for 38 runs in 2.5 overs. His off-spin deliveries were very much predictable and was hit for boundaries.

Yuzvendra Chahal(RCB): The mystery spinner for RCB did not make up to the mark today and went for 27 runs in his 4 overs and could not manage to take a single wicket on such a spinning track.

HITS of the Match:

Suresh Raina(CSK): The most regular player for CSK, who played in each of CSK’s game, played a fantastic knock today on a surface where batting was difficult and the pitch was a bit on the slower side. He remained unbeaten at the score of 62 runs off 48 deliveries with 6 fours and a six. He also bowled brilliantly and gave 20 runs in his 4 overs.

AB De Villiers(RCB): This man changed the game for the RCB. AB came into bat when RCB required 64 runs off 35 deliveries. He turned the game in favour of RCB in no time. He scored 28 runs off 14 deliveries with 1 four and 3 sixes. Scoring at a strike rate of 200 on such a kind of track needed brilliance. He was adjourned the Man of the Match.

Abu Nechim(RCB): The uncapped medium pacer of RCB bowled brilliantly today. He maintained his line perfectly and bowled some great Yorkers right at the deck of the innings. He went for just 18 runs in his 4 overs and took a very important wicket in the form of MS Dhoni. He also played his part with the bat. He scored the winning run for his team with a boundary in the last over.

Ravichandran Ashwin(CSK): Ashwin has been the leading spinner for the CSK for years now. Today, he took full utilization of the pitch and bowled beautifully in the initial overs. Even a monstrous hitter like Gayle could not manage to hit to score a single run in Ashwin’s 3rd over. He went for 16 runs in his 4 overs and took 2 wickets, one of which was of Chris Gayle’s.

IPL 7: Match preview: Mumbai Indians take on Rajasthan Royals as the defending champions fight for survival

Pepsi IPL 7 has reached its final phase and every game has got a huge amount of importance now. We have a double header today and the first match is to be held between Rajasthan Royals Vs. Mumbai Indians at the Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, Ahmedabad. Let us have a look at both the teams and their standings prior to the game.

Rajasthan Royals (RR)

Rajasthan Royals has impressed everyone by their performance in this year’s IPL. Especially the brilliant performances of their uncapped players under the lights of Sanju Samson, Karun Nair, Rajat Bhatia and Pravin Tambe have contributed much to the success of their team.

Rajasthan Royals presently stand 3rd in the league table with 14 points in 10 matches with a net run rate of +0.480. They are in a good position to reach the play-offs and will surely try to confirm their place in the play-offs by winning tomorrow’s encounter. Rajasthan Royals won their previous match against the Delhi Daredevils by a mammoth margin of 66 runs.

The pitch of Ahmedabad seemed to be in favour of the batting side as more than 200 runs were scored by RR in their previous match here. RR does possess one of the solid opening pairs of IPL with Ajinkya Rahane and Karun Nair opening the innings for them. The middle order of the line up is empowered by Sanju Samson, Stuart Binny, Shane Watson and obviously there are the lights of Steve Smith and James Faulkner in the lower middle order of the line up to play match winning cameos. RR has depth in their line up which has been proved from their successful chases. They chased down 65 runs in the last 17 deliveries against RCB a few matches ago.

When the matter comes to bowling, RR has the most successful bowling attack in this year’s IPL. There has been two hat-tricks in this year’s IPL and each of them has been taken by a RR bowler, one being Pravin Tambe and Shane Watson being the other. Also, the medium pace of Rajat Bhatia has helped RR’s cause to a considerable extent.

With the kind of line up, RR possess, they will surely be ahead of MI and are no doubt the stronger side.

Mumbai Indians(MI)

The defending champions are literally out of the tournament. Although, on paper they still have some chances to qualify but practically speaking, they are out of the tournament and do not have any chance to qualify unless there are a bunch of unexpected things happening in the league table.

At Present, Mumbai Indians stand in the 7th position of the league table with 6 points from 10 matches and their net run rate is -0.369. This means that even if they win each of their 4 upcoming matches, they will reach to 14 points which is clearly not enough to qualify for the play-offs.

They have found a bit of stability in their opening combination by the inclusion of Lendl Simmons in the squad. Lendl Simmons and CM Gautam played some good knocks in their previous matches. But in the middle order, no one is in form except Ambati Rayudu. Rohit Sharma and Keiron Pollard did manage to play some good knocks but they lack consistency. Also, we are yet to see a blistering knock from Corey Anderson at the lower middle order.

The bowling attack also seems to be out of touch. Malinga is running out of form and he is struggling to deliver his deadly Yorkers. Pragyan Ojha has been expensive throughout the tournament. The bowling attack suffered a setback after Zaheer Khan has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Harbhajan Singh is the only in-form bowler for them.

MI has to come up strongly and put up their best in order to give a fight to RR.

IPL 7: Match preview – Table toppers Kings XI Punjab take on bottom team Delhi Daredevils

Match Number 45 of IPL 7 will be played today and in all sense is a dead game. This game will have no impact on the chances of both the teams when it comes to make into the semi finals. One on hand , Kings11 Punjab has qualified for the knock out stage of the tournament , whereas Delhi has now all to play for pride in the tournament.

Strong points: Punjab will bank again on their powerful batting lineup , led by Maxwell and Miller. They have shown it that Maxwell and Miller might be their strength but they also have others in their bank to make up for the failure of Miller and Maxwell. Saha and Manan Vohra rose to the occasion in the last match and it just releases a bit of pressure from Maxwell and MIller.

Delhi on the other hands don’t seem to have any strong points , coming into the tournament. But the batting form of JP Duminy and Kedar Jadhav seems to be the only one, if there is one.

Weak points:

Punjab will have to ponder over their bowling and cannot always bank on their batsman to chase down 200+ scores. Johnson’s has not replicated his Test form into the IPL and might be given a break. Sandeep Sharma has been excellent with the new ball , but when it comes to bowling at the death, he has struggled.

For Delhi Daredevils, they will have to improve in every department. Bowling has looked terrible and elimination of Parnell is questionable. Peterson has become a liability for the team.

Team News:  Thisara Perera has gone back for his national duties but that will not affect Punjab as he was not a part of their 11. Johnson might well get a break , but otherwise they are expected to go with the same 11.

Delhi Daredevils might well make bulk changes, considering the fact that they are no more a contender for a spot in the knock out stage. Giving some chances to the youngsters may be a good option, with someone as destructive as Saurabh Tiwari is yet to get a game in this year’s Pepsi IPL.

Standings: Punjab is placed at the top of the table, whereas Delhi is placed at the bottom of it.

Expected result: This must be an easy win for the KingsX11, considering their recent exploits in the IPL and the form of Delhi Daredevils. Delhi, though is a formidable side on paper, but so far has struggled.

Man to watch out for: Maxwell and Miller has been the star of the show but Sehwag is the man to watch out for . Playing on his home ground in Delhi, he will like to make a mark against his ex-franchise , who didnot pick him.

Rohit Sharma: IS his decision to bat in the middle hurting Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have not played upto the expectations of the fans. The winners of the last year’s IPL and the Champions league are placed very low down the order. In the auctions  they left Glenn Maxwell and Dwayne Smith .

But a question that has been coming through out the tournament is the batting position of Rohit Sharma, with almost all the experts feeling the need of urgency from Rohit Sharma’s side to bat up the order. But as a captain , he has to think a lot of other aspects of the game and take care of his team.

If we have a look at the Mumbai Indians of the last year, it was a strong start provided by Dwayne Smith and later stabilised by Dinesh Karthik was a key to their success. Rohit Sharma came in the middle overs and then took from where the top order left. The problem this year has been the openers , with Mike Hussey looking out of sorts and others have also failed to do what Smith did last year.

The scenario has been completely different year. With no good options to bat at the top of the order, it was sensible if Rohit Sharma came at the top, but it was not to be. He came in an innings, ran himslef out, possibly due to poor calling by his partner . But, it was a poor call to skip that position in the next match.

Rohit Sharma not opening the batting has also back fired in the other way. he likes of Kieron Pollard and Corey Anderson have not got enough balls to make any sort of impact what so ever. Pollard and Anderson, on their day can single handedly take the game away from any team .But, getting just 20 balls between them has not helped the team’s cause.

Now, with Mumbai out of the equation of the semi finals , he should bat up the order and try to establish a unit for the next season. Also, the fact that Malinga has now gone for his national duties will mean that Mumbai will have to insert a new bolwer into the team and this gives them a chance to drop out Lendl Simmons and get Rohit Sharma on the board .

Someone opening for India should take it a chance to build himself as an opener . Rohit has been left stranded and is not getting the things right when it comes to decision making . Hopefully, good sense prevails on him and he leads the team back by some strong  opening performance.

To conclude with, Mumbai has not played to it’s potential and to some extent Rohit’s decision of not opening the innings has caused them. But, the others in the lineup have also not played to their potential . The onus had to fall on the captain and with no pressure upon him, lets hope of the best for the defending champions who have no chance of defending it now.

IPL 7: RR vs MI – Hits and flops

It was Match No. 44 of Pepsi IPL 7 between Rajasthan Royals Vs. The defending champions, Mumbai Indians at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad. Mumbai Indians have not played up to the mark this season while on the other hand, Rajasthan Royals played excellent cricket and won some games on the verge of getting defeated. In this game, Rajasthan Royals looked to cement their position in the playoffs while Mumbai Indians came out to play good cricket so that their fans get something to cheer for. And MI did manage to put up a brilliant show and they won the game by a margin of 25 runs. Let us now dig deep into the HITS and FLOPS of the match.

FLOPS Of The Match

Shane Watson (RR): The man  who took a hat-trick for RR did not bowl today and made some unexpected changes in the squad. He did not manage to rotate his bowlers well initially. Even with the bat, he gave a disappointing performance. He came out to bat when his side needed him the most but scored only 5 runs off 6 deliveries and was dismissed by Pragyan Ojha.

Sanju Samson (RR): One of the most promising talent of India disappointed by his performance today. He came to bat when his side was struggling but he failed to lift up the team and was dismissed at a score of 2 runs off 5 balls.

James Faulkner (RR): The match winner for the Royals in some previous matches gave up a poor performance today. He disappointed with his bowling and struggled to fine his line and length. He gave away 17 runs in the last over of the innings and himself gave 47 runs in his 4 overs and went wicketless. In his batting, he did score 31 off 21 but his side had already lost the game by that time.

HITS Of The Match

Michael Hussey (MI): Mr. Cricket is back in scoring ways and played a great knock today. He was once again posted to the top of the order to open the innings for MI. He did a great job and played some exquisite strokes. He scored 56 runs off 39 deliveries with 3 fours and 2 sixes.

Lendl Simmons (MI): This man has brought some stability in the MI batting and today also he once again set the pillar for MI with a great century opening partnership with Michael Hussey. The partnership contributed 120 runs off 87 deliveries. Simmons played his part very well and complemented Hussey perfectly by rotating strikes when needed. He scored 62 runs off 51 deliveries with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Harbhajan Singh(MI): The turbinator managed to bowl extremely well for yet another time. He spun the ball well and bowled with great line and length. He managed to take 2 wickets in his 4 overs, one of which was of Karun Nair’s one, and gave just 13 runs which was highly economical.

Karun Nair(RR): He was the sole warrior for the Royals today and played a fine innings but did not get slightest of the support on the other end. Wickets kept falling on the other end but he carried on with his aggression. He scored 48 runs off 24 deliveries with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

IPL 7, Match 45: DD vs KXIP – Hits and Flops

The second game of today in Pepsi IPL was between the last and the first. It was the match between the Delhi Daredevils Vs. Kings XI Punjab at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi. The match did not have much importance according to the league table since DD are out of the tournament by just 2 wins in 11 games, while on the other hand KXIP are already through to the play-offs. KXIP, though they needed to win this one to maintain their position in the first two of the league table. It was a high scoring one and KXIP won the game by 4 wickets. Let us now analyse the players, who contributed to the match’s fate.

FLOPS of The Match

Wayne Parnell (DD): The South African pacer did not manage to bowl well tonight. He went for boundaries initially and gave 12 runs in his 3rd over when it mattered the most for his team. In the last over, he was unable to defend 10 runs. He gave a total of 42 runs in 3.4 overs and went wicketless.

Glenn Maxwell (KXIP): We missed the MAXIMUM from the orange cap holder, Maxwell tonight. He was on the verge to take off with his aggression when he was bowled by Imran Tahir. He managed to score only 14 runs off 11 deliveries.

David Miller (KXIP): It was just an off day for the KILLER MILLER. He failed to perform with the bat tonight and managed to score just 2 runs off 6 deliveries when he was bowled out by JP Duminy. It was one of the rarest days when the Double M of KXIP failed to impress.

HITS of The Match

Dinesh Karthik(DD) : It was the day meant for the IPL’s one of the most expensive players. He played a brilliant knock and contributed much in setting up a mammoth total for DD. He scored 69 runs off 44 deliveries with 7 fours and 3 sixes. He played some fantastic strokes and was involved in a 71 partnership with Kevin Pietersen.

Manan Vohra(KXIP) : The retained player of KXIP is coming very good for them. He played a blistering knock in their last match against SRH and today, for yet another time, he scored a thunderous innings which has made the chase very easy for the rest of the line up. He scored 42 runs off 19 deliveries with 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Akshar Patel(KXIP): One of the trump cards for KXIP once again impressed with his all-round performance tonight. He took the wicket of dangerous Kevin Pietersen at a crucial moment and was the only bowler from the KXIP who bowled at an economy rate of less than 5. He gave just 18 runs in his 4 overs and had taken 1 wicket. With the bat too, he played a match winning knock of 42 runs off 35 deliveries and remained unbeaten and was adjourned as the Man Of the Match.

Imran Tahir (DD): The South African spinner bowled incredibly well tonight. He took some important wickets and bowled the second last over of the innings extremely well and gave only 2 runs. He took 3 wickets in his 4 overs and gave only 22 runs.

IPL 7: Royal Challengers Bangalore take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in a must win game

Royal Challengers Bangalore and  Sunrisers Hyderabad  will face each other in a do or die sort of encounter today at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium , Hyderabad.  A loss in this game will definitely shatter the hopes of the semi finals but a win here may not gurantee a berth in the knock outs as it will depend on the results of the other matches.

Hyderabad have not been playing at home , the way they played last time around. Much of it goes to the pitch which has been prepared this time. The pitch is a lot batting friendly and this is where the local team has suffered. I wonder  who regulates the nature of the pitch , but anyways it won’t please Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Strong points: RCB’s batting has started to click and Yuvraj’s exploits just makes them a dangerous side. Virat showed some good signs in the previous encounter against Chennai and Chris Gayle too played a sensible innings. This pitch will support their kind of batting and run flow can be expected here.

SunRisers on the other hand depends on their bowling. Defending low totals have been their strength . In the last match Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a rough day and it is bound to happen, but overall they are a formidable bowling unit.

Weak points: RCB is still not settled as a bowling unit and have performed in patches , but now when their batting is showing glimpses of their ability, this won’t matter much to them.

On the other hand, Sunrisers have a lot to think about. Darren Sammy has been appointed as captain and this is perhaps not a sensible move. Their batsman have got starts but have not been able to convert those starts into big ones. Amit Mishra has looked out of sorts and  he has been a weak link in the lineup. Also, their 5th bowlers are a weak link and batsman will surely target them.

Team news: After Darren Sammy has been appointed as captain of the side, it doesn’t look that Sunrisers will have any change in their lineup and will be going with the same playing 11.

Bangalore , on the other hand may make a batting change , but that also seems very unlikely.

Expected result:  It should be a walk in the cake for the Royal Challengers Bangalore , considering that they have improved after their batting has started to click. Unless, Sunrisers pile up a good score or get the opposition out at a decent score, this must be a Bangalore’s match.

Fans must be waiting for another Devilliers –Steyn battle . Both the teams have played some very close encounters and may well repeat it this time.

The match will start at 4pm local time at Rajiv Gandhi stadium, Hyderabad.

IPL7: Chennai Super Kings take on KKR in clash of two evenly matched teams

Chennai Super Kings  and Kolkata Knight riders will face each other at Eden Gardens , Kolkata in the 2nd encounter in IPL today. Both the teams will have a lot at stake. A win for the Kolkata Knightriders will strengthen their chances of making into the semi finals and a win for Chennai will boost their chances of getting into the knockout stage as the Top 2 teams of the IPL. Getting into the knock outs as top2 just gives you an extra shot at the semi finals.

Kolkata Knightriders has come back to form after a horrible start to their IPL campaign. It is amazing to see how this team starts so badly every season and picks at the right time. This was what happened in IPL5, when they won the title for the first time.

On the other hand , Chennai SUperKings has been very consistent team since the first season of the IPL.

Strong Points: Kolkata’s opening stand has been the leading factor for their revival. Gautam Gambhir came good after 3 consecutive ducks and Uthappa has shown a lot of maturity in his shots selection. The fact that this match is is Kolkata just add another advantage to Kolkata. They have been boosted by Yusuf Pathan coming back to form. Kolkata will have their task cut out in the spin friendly track and  their spin attack , led by mystery spinner Sunil Narine will make it tough for  Chennai batsman.

On the other hand, it has been an all round show for the CSK team, led by the openers . Suresh Raina and Dhoni has been taking guard of the middle order . Chennai also has a decent spin attack , along with some some useful part time spinners.

Weak Points: Both the teams do not seem to have any prior weak point now, after having sorted out their line up by the business end of the tournament.  But the absence of Brendon McCullum, who has gone back for his national duties, will affect the CSK line up, as David Hussey will take a bit more to settle down as he has been out of the game for a bit now.

Team News:  Kolkata Knightriders will be going with the same line up whereas Chennai will be making a forced change. duPlesis will be coming in for McCullum , after the latter was rested for the previous encounter.

Both the teams are even on paper, but the absence of Brendon McCullum and the home conditions will give the Kolkata Knightriders an edge over the Chennai SuperKings.  Also, the fact that the pitch is expected to be spin friendly helps Kolkata’s cause. They have 3 front line spinners and well backed by a more than a part timer,Yusuf Pathan. But the difference will be Sunil Narine.

IPL 7 : Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) : Match Preview

IPL 7 : Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) : Match Preview 1

With the semi final spot up for grab, both the Sunrisers and KKR will try out their best to get into that. This match can be called a sort of virtual quarter finals as the others in the table like Royal Challengers Bangalore , Mumbai Indians seems to be almost out . Huderabad , will have an edge as their home performance has been extra ordinary but this year they have not been able to replicate the same performance. This match can be considered as the match of spin powers Vs Pacers. Sunrisers will depend mostly on their pace bowlers whereas Kolkata will bank on their spinners.

Kolkata will have an edge, considering their recent performance and their batting unit especially their opening combination. Gambhir has come back to form after a horrible start to his IPL campaign.

Team News: There ar no fitness issues in the match and both teams will have their task cut out . KKR is expected to retain it’s playing 11, which will mean that Kallis will be sidelined again. kolkata has been strengthened by the presence of Shakib al Hasan , who has come good with both bat and ball. On the other hand , Sunrisers will have to ponder over their 11 as their bowling is looking horrible. This will mean a comeback of Ishant Sharma or Jason Holder will get his first game. The return of Shikhar Dhawan into form is the best news for them.

Form : Kolkata is currently placed 4th and Sunrisers are placed 5th , and thus this match will decide the final outcome.

Weak points: Sunrisers depend too much on their top 3 and their middle order is yet to respond to their cause. Amit Mishra‘s form has been the main difference since last year. Karan Sharma has looked better than him and the onus falls on him

While KKR has depended on it’s opening combination for it’s revival, the middle order has collapsed more than once . This will surely test them in this match as Sunrisers have historically taken wickets at the start.

Strong points: While KKr will bank on spinners , Sunrisers will bank on it’s pacers to win the match for them.
