BWF Super Series Finals: K Srikanth loses tamely to Kento Momota

K Srikanth loses to Kento Momota in the men’s singles at the BWF Super Series finals played at Dubai just a few moments ago. It was a poor performance by K Srikanth who was outplayed in all departments and never was allowed to make a come back into the match. It was the first match for him in Group B.

In the first game, Momota began well taking the challenge for in and the decision stood as in. After that, Srikanth took a 2-1 lead and then 3-1 lead. Momota then came back and took 2 successive points to equal the score at 3-3. Momota then took 3 successive points to take a 6-3 lead. Momota dominated the game and lead 9-5 before Srikanth came back to reduce the gap to 8-10. At the interval, Momota led 11-8. After the interval, Momota dominated Srikanth and never allowed the Indian player to come back into the match and won the first set 21-13 easily.

In the second game, Momota again began off well taking a 3-0 lead. Srikanth tried to come back into the match, but Momota maintained pressure on Srikanth. Srikanth played some excellent shots to reduce the gap to 5-6. Momota took control of the game and then took 5 successive points to take an 11-5 lead at the interval. After the interval, Momota continued his dominance and from 14-9 the Japanese player took 5 successive points to take a commanding 19-10 lead. Momota won the second set 21-13 easily.

Srikanth will face Victor Axselen in his next match tomorrow. It will be a crucial match for the Indian as a win will help to remain in contention for the semi-finals.
