The doubles women pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Jwala Gutta lost to Fukman and Yanao in straight sets 23-25, 14-21 to be knocked out of the quarter finals of BWF World Championship played at Jakarta earlier this morning. The Indian pair made lot of errors by hitting into the net or hitting well out. It was a disappointing performance by the Indian pair but was dominated by the Japanese pair.

In the first game the Japanese pair started off to an aggressive taking the first 3 points. Ashwini Ponappa and Jwala Gutta took 1 point and then 2 more points. The Japanese pair played aggressively. At the interval Fukman and Yanao took a comfortable 11-7. After the interval the Indian pair came back and from 7-11 down Ashwini Ponappa and Jwala Gutta 8 successive points to take 15-12 lead. The Japanese pair came back and from 13-16 down reduced the gap to only 1 point at 16-17. Both pairs played some excellent badminton and equaled the score at 23-23 before the Japanese pair took 2 points to take first game 23-25.

In the second game the Japanese pair took 3 successive points to take the lead. The Indian pair only took 3 points and the lead big 11-4. After the interval both pairs took alternate points. Ashwini Ponappa and Jwala Gutta made a lot of errors and the placement of Japanese pair made it tough for the Indian pair. The Japanese took the game and set 21-14.

With this Indian team have two hopes of bringing a medal for the country.
