India’s last hope K Srikanth lost out to World top seed Chen Long in straight sets 18-21, 9-21 in the semi-finals of Dubai super series finals here today. It was a good performance by the Indian rising star which has performed exceptionally well in this tournament and did his best to challenge the Chinese but was not able to do so.
In the first game Srikanth began off to good start taking a sizeable lead. The Indian played some good smashes and made the Chinese to work hard. At the interval it was 11-5 in the favor of the Indian. After the interval the Chinese raised the bar of the game and came back in the match after being 14-7 and 16-10 down, the Chinese showed its class to level it up 18-18. After that Chen Long took the first game 18-21.
In the second game, the Chinese did not allow the Indian to comeback in the match and took the lead from the start. Chen Long played some wonderful smashes and cross court smashes which proved the undoing of Srikanth. At the interval the Chinese was up by 11-3. After the interval Srikanth tried to comeback in the game but it was too late. Chen Long won the game by 21-9. This was a dominate performance by the Chinese which showed the class and stamina of the player.
Srikanth will be happy that he reached the semi-finals stage of this tournament who was playing for first time on big stage. Earlier Saina lost her semi-finals match to her Chinese Taipei opponent. These two Indian players performed reasonably well in this tournament, but need to work harder on their fitness, her game and on the agility game.
In today’s game Chen Long tired the Indian for which Srikanth had no answer to it. The Indian player has done and hope that he do well in the upcoming year. Despite performing well in the first set, the Indian player was not able to match the speed, strokes of the Chinese player in the second game.
