PV Sindhu beats Mitani to win Macau Open title

PV Sindhu defeated Mitani of Japan in the finals of the Macau Open Grand Prix Gold event just few moments ago. The match went to three sets with the match swinging from one side to another but PV Sindhu held her nerves to retain her title that she won in 2013 and 2014.

In the first game PV Sindhu began off to a positive start taking a 5-1 early lead. Mitani made a lot of mistakes. The Indian player dominated and never allowed Mitani to come back into the match. At the interval PV Sindhu led 11-4. After the interval PV Sindhu continued her domination and took a commanding lead of 17-6. PV Sindhu won the first set 21-9 easily.

In the second game PV Sindhu began positively taking the first two points before Mitani came back to equal the score at 2-2. Mitani took 2 points in a row to take a 4-2 lead before Sindhu came back and took 3 points in succession to take a 5-4 lead. Both players played some excellent smashes and drop shots. PV Sindhu was leading 8-6 before Mitani took 2 points in a row to level the score at 8-8.

At the interval Mitani led 11-9. After the interval it was a neck to neck battle between these two players. Both players fought for each point. Sindhu had two chances of winning the match but Mitani survived both match points before winning the second set 23-21.

In the third and deciding game both players began taking alternate points till 2-2. PV Sindhu dominated the game and took 5-2 lead. It was an excellent performance by PV Sindhu.


At the interval PV Sindhu led 11-6. After the interval PV Sindhu showed brilliant skills and never allowed Mitani to come back into the match. PV Sindhu won the third set 21-14.

PV Sindhu played some excellent badminton in the entire tournament and would look to continue her form in the remainder of 2015 and 2016 in order to qualify for the Rio Olympics.
