Srikanth beat Xue Song in straight sets 21-16, 21-13 to enter into the finals of Yonex Super Series finals at the Siri Fort Complex at New Delhi here today following Saina Nehwal within an hour’s interval. It was an excellent performance by Srikanth who played some scintillating badminton throughout the match. It was watched by a housefull capacity crowd.

In the first game Xue Song began off to a great start taking 4-0 lead. Srikanth came back to equal at 4-4. After that both of players played some excellent badminton to level it at 7-7. Until then both got one point alternately. Srikanth then took two successive points to take a 9-7 lead. Srikanth went into the interval with 11-8 lead. After the interval both of players took alternate points till 14-11. Srikanth took 3 successive points to make it 17-12. Xue Song fought back well in the match at this juncture  taking 4 points to make it 16-18 but could not stop Srikanth, who  took 4 successive to take the first game 21-16.

In the second game Xue Song again began off to a great start taking 4-0 lead before Srikanth squared up the score at 4-4. At 6-5 an excellent rally took place and the point went to Xue to make it 7-5. Srikanth played drop shot at 7-8. Xue Song hit the shuttle out to give Srikanth to level the score at 8-8. Another down the line smash took Shrikanth to 10-8. At the interval Srikanth took 11-9 lead. After the interval he took 2 successive points again to make it 13-9 before Xue Song took a point. At 15-10 an excellent rally took place and the point went in favor of Srikanth. He continued to take four successive points to make it 19-12. Srikanth won the second game 21-13.

This is first time in Indian badminton that the men’s and women’s singles players have reached the finals of home super series. Srikanth will play Victor Axslen in the finals tomorrow.
