Test cricket is the purest form of cricket. The patience of the batsman is tested in a big way, especially the top order batsman and the batsman coming down the order. Scoring a double century in the Test match is a great achievement and that too consistently is remarkable.

The astronomical rise in Virat Kohli’s batting had already become the talk of the town owing to his delightful strokes.

Leading from the front as an example, Kohli has made it a norm by spending the quality time on the crease while toying with the opponent bowlers.In 104 Test innings, Kohli amassed 4,975 runs at an average of 51.82. He smashed 19 hundreds and 14 fifties.

With such stamina, the sensational top-order batsman Kohli made batting easy even on a difficult surface for the batting in the recent past.

The 29-year-old batting star Kohli has further collected his fifth double-hundred in Test cricket in his 62nd Test match, in a bid to become overall 12th player alongside South Africa’s former skipper Graeme Smith to score the most double-hundreds.

Interestingly, Kohli has become fourth Indian to register four double-hundred mark which further includes Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, who smashed six double-hundreds each.

1. Don Bradman (Most Double Centuries in Test Cricket)

Don Bradman is one of the greatest batsmen of all time for Australia and the world. He retired from Test cricket in 1948 against England. He used to come at number 3 in the batting order and made the batting look very easy.

He played 52 Test matches and scored 6996 runs with an average of 99.94 which by any standard is jaw-dropping. He scored 29 centuries and 13 half-centuries. Don Bradman scored 12 double centuries. His best score was 334.

He scored eight double centuries against England, one against South Africa, one against West Indies, one against South Africa, one against India. He was one of the best cricketers.

2. Kumar Sangakkara (Most Double Centuries in Test Cricket)

Kumar Sangakkara was another Sri Lankan batsman who had the habit of scoring of huge runs. He retired after the second Test match against India recently. He used to come at number 3 in the batting order for the most number of times in Test cricket. He played 134 Test matches and scored 12400 runs at an average of 57.40.

He scored 38 centuries and 52 half-centuries. Kumar Sangakkara scored 11 double centuries in Test cricket which is a great achievement for any cricketer. His best score was 319 in 2014. He and Mahela Jayawardene shared some excellent partnerships and made huge scores in Test cricket.

Kumar Sangakkara scored three double-centuries against Pakistan, one against Zimbabwe, two against South Africa, three against Bangladesh, one against India, one against New Zealand.

3. Brian Lara (Most Double Centuries in Test Cricket)

Brian Lara was another excellent left-handed batsman for West Indies. He retired from Test cricket against Pakistan in 2006. He used to bat in middle-order for West Indies and created pressure on the bowlers from the start. He played 131 Test matches and scored 11953 runs with an average of 52.88. He scored 34 centuries and 48 half-centuries.

Brian Lara scored 9 double centuries. His best score was 400 not out. He was a special batsman who made the batting look very easy and put the pressure on opponent bowlers. He scored two double centuries against Australia, two against Sri Lanka, two against England, one against South Africa.

4. Wally Hammond (Most Double Centuries in Test Cricket)

Wally Hammond was an excellent English cricketer who played from 1920 to 1951. He played for England and retired from Test cricket in 1947 against New Zealand. He played 85 Test matches and scored 7249 runs with an average of 58.45.

He scored 22 centuries and 24 half-centuries. Out of 22 centuries, he converted 7 into double centuries. His best score was 336 not out. He scored double centuries against Four against Australia, two against New Zealand, one against India.

5. Mahela Jayawardene (Most Double Centuries in Test Cricket)

Mahela Jayawardene was one of the greatest middle order batsmen in Test cricket who was brilliant with his feet movement. He played for Sri Lanka and retired from Test cricket in 2014. He played 149 Test matches and scored 11814 runs at an average of 49.84. He scored 34 centuries and 50 half-centuries. Out of 34 centuries, he converted those centuries into 7 double centuries in Test cricket.

Mahela Jayawardene was the backbone of the Sri Lankan middle order and won many matches on his own with his excellent batting.  Mahela Jayawardene scored double two double centuries against South Africa, two against India, two against England, two against Pakistan, one against Bangladesh.
