Now that the Asia Cup will be played in T20 format for the first time from 24th Febuarary, India will head into the tournament confident of winning the title. In this tournament, 5 Asian superpowers will fight to become champion. The Indian players, one would hope, continue their great form leading to the World T20.

Here we look at the 5 Indian players to watch out in the Asia Cup.

1. Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh has not had enough match practice ahead of Asia Cup. He did not get a chance to bat in the first 2 T20 matches against Australia and played an important knock in the 3rd T20. In the home series against Sri Lanka, he did not get enough chances to bat. The Asia Cup tournament provides Yuvraj Singh the best chance to get back into form. His batting position needs to be flexible. He also provides bowling option. This will give MS Dhoni the options to go to him.

2. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli the best batsman in the world was rested for the T20 series against Sri Lanka. He has been in excellent form in the T20 series against Australia where he scored 199 runs in 3 matches and was named the man of series. He comes at number 3 in the batting order and provides the team the solidity. With the World T20 around the corner, the Asia Cup provides Kohli an excellent chance to showcase his class against 5 of the top Asian nations. Virat Kohli will be eager to make a statement by performing well in the tournament and gain confidence for the big tournament.  With the tournament to be played in Bangladesh, it will help him to continue his great form.

3. R Ashwin

R Ashwin has been the main bowler for MS Dhoni for quite some time. With the Asia Cup to be played in Bangladesh where the pitches will help the slow bowlers, R Ashwin will be the main threat for the other teams. In the recently concluded T20 series against Sri Lanka, he was named the man of the series. His special ability is that he can bowl at the start and also in the middle overs. If the pitches help the spinners he can put pressure on the opponent batsmen and also control the run flow. He has looked a more confident bowler and India will depend on him to deliver the goods in Bangladesh.

4. Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah since his debut in international cricket has been the main bowler for the Indian team. His awkward action has confused the batsmen. In the T20 series against Australia and Sri Lanka, he bowled with control and pace. He bowls Yorker at will which has solved the problem of India leaking runs in the death overs’s. With the Asia Cup starting from 24th February it provides Bumrah a chance to further improve his skills ahead of the big tournament.

5. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, the opening batsmen for India, has been in excellent form against Australia. He gives the team flying starts to which the other batsmen can build upon. He has all the shots in his tank. With the Asia Cup about to start in 3 days time, it provides Rohit Sharma a chance to play aggressive cricket and gain confidence ahead of the big tournament in India. He is the second Indian batsmen to have centuries in all formats. Rohit Sharma needs to come good if India needs to continue their winning momentum
