A new era is waiting to usher in for Indian cricket. With Virat Kohli at the helm in Tests, the team, full of talented youngsters, have started to make the most of their opportunities. In limited-overs format, barring Mahendra Singh Dhoni, new faces have come in and are desperate to make a mark. With the team doing well across all formats, it is very much expected that the selectors, as well as the team management, would like to give the youngsters an extended run to get well-accustomed to the game at the highest stage. The recently announced squad for the England series is a further indication that the selectors now want a new era to start for Indian cricket. Well, this effectively ends a lot of senior players’ chances of donning the Indian jersey once again.
So here we present to you the list of five players who might never play for India again:
5. Irfan Pathan:
The cricket prodigy took the world by storm as a nineteen-year-old. His ability to swing the ball both ways had even the best of batsmen worried. As he spent more time in international cricket, his batting improved and was tipped by many to end India’s long wait for a quality all-rounder. However, somehow he lost his bowling rhythm and is now not even in the reckoning for a spot in the Indian team.
The left-arm pacer, who is the second Indian to take a Test hat-trick, played his last game for India way back in October 2012 in ICC World Twenty20 in Colombo. He hasn’t been considered ever since and with the selectors now backing Hardik Pandya as the pace-bowling all-rounder in the team, there are very bleak chances of him making a comeback to the team.
