Wait is finally over as India’s tour of South Africa is set to begin this Thursday, 5th December – albeit a curtailed tour. After months of shadow boxing played by administrators cricket is set to take the center stage. Talking of cricket, India has ploethra if records to break when they begin their quest for first ODI and Test series victory in their history. Here are five records which awaits India during their African safari.

1 Most runs in ODI cricket by a team


So far, 1, 82, 881 runs have been scored by both India and Australia in ODI cricket. When India scores its first run on 5th December, it’ll become the highest scoring team in ODI cricket.

2 Most runs by an Indian captain in ODI cricket

Mahendra Singh Dhoni

Indian captain MS Dhoni (5213 runs) needs 27 more runs to become the highest run-scorer while leading India in ODIs. Mohammad Azharuddin leads the list currently with 5239 runs. Overall, Ricky Ponting leads the list of highest run-scoring captains with 8497 runs.

3 Most ODI wins under an Indian captain  


If India wins the ODI series 3-0, MS Dhoni will become the most successful ODI captain for India. Currently, under Dhoni, India has won 88 ODI matches. Dhoni is 2 matches behind Mohammad Azharuddin who won 90 matches.

4 Most consecutive series win by India


India have won 6 consecutive ODI series so far, equalling their previous record which they made in 2009. If they win the ODI series vs South Africa, it’ll be the most consecutive series ever won by India. Overall, only Australia have won more than India’s current six consecutive series win. Australia have bettered India on two occasion. Aussies have won 9 and 10 consecutive ODI series during their heydays in early part of 21st century.

5 Zaheer Khan can become 2nd Indian pacer to take 300 Test wickets


Zaheer Khan has taken 295 Test wickets so far in his Test career. If he manages to take 5 more in the two match Test series, he’ll become only the 2nd Indian pace bowler after Kapil Dev to take 300 Test wickets. Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh are the other Indian bowlers to have achieved that feat, but both were spinners.
