Player of the Match award – ODI series during India tour of Australia 2018/19
Till the date, India’s best Australian tour in international cricket was in 2018/19 edition where the visitors leveled the T20I series and won the Test and ODI series.
However, during the three-match ODI series of that tour, India suffered a 34-run defeat in the first game in Sydney. The young Australian right-arm fast bowler Jhye Richardson won the Player of the Match award for his incredible match-winning bowling figures of 10-2-26-4.
While the top international cricket board Cricket Australia (CA) hosted that international game, Richardson was awarded a shoelace and a bat-grip during the presentation ceremony. That incident was heavily criticized by the many cricket fans. This certainly makes it into the weirdest trophies in cricket.
