Former India batsman Aakash Chopra has found himself in the middle of a controversy due to his old tweet about star batsman Rohit Sharma. It all began when he and Venkatesh Prasad got engaged in a war of words over KL Rahul.

Prasad has posted a number of tweets in recent times to criticise Rahul over his poor form. The India opener has been going through a lean patch in Tests for quite some time now and his performance in the ongoing series against Australia has only made things worse for him.

In three innings so far, Rahul has played knocks of 20, 17 and 1. Last week, the BCCI removed him as the vice-captain of the team for the last two Tests against Australia. There are also reports, suggesting that the under-performing opener might have to make way for Shubman Gill in the upcoming third Test.

Aakash Chopra’s old tweet resurfaces:

With Rahul not getting dropped from the team despite a string of poor performances, Prasad questioned his place in the team and also alleged ‘favouritism’. The former India fast-bowler took to Twitter to state that Rahul does not deserve a place in the team based on his recent performances.

Aakash Chopra, however, defended the under-pressure batsman and it eventually led to a war of words with Prasad. After Chopra released a video on YouTube, questioning Prasad’s criticism, the latter slammed him on Twitter. Not only that, Prasad also posted a screenshot of one of Chopra’s old tweet where he had criticised Rohit Sharma.

The tweet was from 2012 where he had sarcastically added the word ‘talented’ before Rohit while questioning his place in the team. Posting the tweet, Prasad wrote: “So my friend Aakash Chopra after making a vile video on YouTube this morning where he calls me an agenda peddle, conveniently and cleverly misquotes me, removes Mayank’s average of 70 at home, wants to gag views which are not in line with what he believes but wanted Rohit out.”

Well it did not take Prasad’s tweet long to go viral and since then the former India opener has been facing the heat on social media. And he has proved it by swiftly deleting the tweet about Rohit.

Fans not only slammed Chopra for his tweet but also stated that Prasad ‘exposed’ the former cricketer-turned-commentator. Following Prasad’s tweet, an old video where Chopra was speaking against promoting Rohit as an opener has also gone viral.
