South African opener Aiden Markram on Wednesday (April 4) got elevated in the top 10 of the latest ICC Rankings for batsmen in the longest format.

Following his sensational knock of 153 in the first innings of the 4th Test against Australia in Johannesburg. He subsequently got the promotion in the Test-batting rankings.

Despite being out of action suspended Aussie skipper Steve Smith maintained his numero uno status.

However, his gap with Indian skipper Kohli has come down to 17 points.

Smith had a below-par Test series against the Proteas before being handed a 12-month suspension by Cricket Australia (CA).

Kane Williamson and Joe Root who were the captains of New Zealand and England swapped places in the table after a 1-0 victory for the Black Caps.

Another suspended player, David Warner makes up the top five with 823 points. The Test series victory against the Aussies was the first series victory against the Aussies at home since readmission.

Markram ended the series being the leading run scorer. He smashed two brilliant centuries in the series and looked in complete control of proceedings.
