Ashish Nehra feels players like Kieron Pollard, Imran Tahir and Rashid Khan would be better accustomed to playing IPL 2020 because they have already played the CPL 2020 in West Indies.
Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra believes that players who have played Caribbean Premier League will hold an advantage over others while playing in IPL. CPL 2020 will be played by the likes of Chris Lynn, Rashid Khan, Imran Tahir, Mitchell Santner, Mujeeb-ur-Rahaman, Andre Russell, Lendl Simmons, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Mohammad Nabi and Dwayne Bravo who will be playing in IPL 2020.
Ashish Nehra Feels Players of CPL Will Have An Edge Over Others Short Of Practice
The eighth season of CPL will take place from 18th August to September 10 and IPL will take place a month after that and Ashish Nehra reckons cricketers representing CPL will be better suited to play T20 cricket than others who have not played cricket for a long time since lockdowns were imposed due to covid-19 pandemic which has claimed many lives across the globe.
“I would like to say, which ever player plays CPL, there is no guarantee that their performance will be replicated in the IPL, but they will definitely have an edge over the other players. If you reach UAE after playing for a month, it will definitely make a difference, be it Kieron Pollard or Imran Tahir or Rashid Khan,” Nehra said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.
Imran Tahir, former teammate of Ashish Nehra in Chennai Super Kings squad feels the experience of CPL will work well for him and his chances to deliver for CSK will improve if he plays more games at his age increasing confidence and experience. The South African leg spinner has retired from ODI after 2019 World Cup but continues to play both IPL and CPL.
Ashish Nehra Feels Imran Tahir Is A Dedicated Player
Imran Tahir is a Pakistan born South African player who played for Pakistan in the U-19 but played for South Africa from 2011 to 2019 representing them in 20 tests, 107 ODIs and 38 T20Is taking more than 50 wickets across formats. He has 57 wickets, 173 wickets and 63 wickets respectively. His current age of 41 means that he may not be selected for South Africa or Pakistan again.
“Even today when Imran Tahir takes a wicket, he celebrates like an 18 to 20-year-old player. He is a dedicated player. When we talk about a certain age, when you get to play more matches and get more practice at that age, it is always better. It will be a really good thing for Imran Tahir to play the IPL after playing in the CPL,” Nehra pointed out.
Ashish Nehra who is more than six feet tall has represented India from 1999 to 2017 and has picked up 44 wickets in 17 Tests, 157 wickets in 120 ODIs and 34 wickets in 27 T20Is.
