Former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra has picked the players in his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 only based on performance this season. And therefore, he has dropped some big names like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
Ashish Nehra has gone with Kings XI Punjab’s KL Rahul and SunRisers Hyderabad’s David Warner as the opening combination- one is the orange cap holder. At the same time, the other one is the leading scorer for his franchise.
For batting at number three, the former RCB bowling coach has selected Suryakumar Yadav over Virat Kohli. He reasoned that the Mumbai Indians player more impactful innings than the Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper. Following Suryakumar Yadav is, AB de Villiers batting at number. Ashish Nehra remarked every IPL team is incomplete without the Proteas.
“If you go just by the tournament performance, then my openers will be KL Rahul and David Warner,” Nehra said on Star Sports. “At No.3, I am not choosing Virat Kohli. It’s not that he has not scored runs but the impact runs were scored by Suryakumar Yadav, so I will keep him at No.3. There is no T20 team completed without AB de Villiers. So, he will be No.4.”
At number five and six, Nehra picks the two power hitter of Mumbai Indians- Ishan Kishan and Hardik Panday. Both of them boosted the innings in middle and death overs.
Coming to the bowling department, Ashish Nehra picks two fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer while dropped Kagiso Rabad, the purple cap holder of this season. Yuavendra Chahal and Rashid Khan are the two spinners while for the fifth bowler he will go with either Ravichandran Ashwin and Mohammed Shami according to conditions.
“And then Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah. My final pick will be one of Ravichandran Ashwin or Shami. If three fast bowlers are required, I will go with Archer, Bumrah and Shami. If only two are required, I will go with Bumrah and Archer and will play Ravichandran Ashwin instead of Shami,” Ashish Nehra said.
Never thought of making the team without MS Dhoni: Ashish Nehra
Ashish Nehra admitted that it was a tough choice to drop MS Dhoni in the IPL XI but considering this year’s poor performance, he said that the CSK skipper didn’t deserve to be in this season’s team.
“We also have Kagiso Rabada and Kane Williamson. And my thinking is that I will never make a team without MS Dhoni, but his tournament was not good. So, if you go by the tournament performances, this will be my XI,” Nehra said.
