Ashton Agar Not Worried Despite Not Playing White Ball Cricket Sometime

However, Ashton Agar believes performance in Sheffield Shield will help him. Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar missed out on Australia’s white-ball tour of England in September this year but says that the lack of white-ball cricket should not be an issue in preparing for the upcoming ODI and T20I series against India.

But the spinner had a good outing in the Marsh Sheffield Shield matches and believes that it has helped him prepare for the India series. However, he admits that it will be tough for him to make it to the ODI squad as Australia usually prefers playing with just one spinner, and Adam Zampa will have a greater chance of playing.

“Yeah I haven’t played white-ball cricket for a little while, but that’s nothing that worries me too much,” Ashton Agar told AAP.

“The one-day side is a hard side to get into. Unless you’re going to pick two spinners, Adam Zampa has a run of it at the start anyway.”

Ashton Agar was part of Australia’s teams in both white-ball formats last summer but missed out on the England tour in September. However, he believes that his performance in Marsh Sheffield Shield outing will earn him a call-up for the T20I series which begins December 4.

“I think I bowled about 150 overs in three Shield games. I bowled on some wickets that were absolute highways. Trying to think batsmen out on really good wickets actually holds you in good stead going into an ODI and T20 series,” he said.

Ashton Agar took 10 wickets in three games in Sheffield Shield 2020-21. He has played 4 Tests, 13 ODIs and 27 T20Is.
