Auckland Or Allahabad? Watch: MS Dhoni Gets Hero Like Reception From Fans During 2nd T20I

For a moment even MS Dhoni would have been thinking whether he was coming to bat in Auckland or Ahmedabad. The former India skipper received a stunning reception from the jam-packed stadium in Auckland when he came out to bat in the second T20I against New Zealand. The fans cheered and clapped wildly as Dhoni made his way to the ground. The ongoing tour is more than likely to be Dhoni’s last visit to New Zealand as a player and the fans made sure to make the moment special for star.

Dhoni, nonetheless, came to the crease when India were reeling at 118 for 3 while chasing 159 to square the three-match series. The veteran-batsman, who had top-scored for the team in the previous T20I, shared an unbeaten stand of 42 with Rishabh Pant to take India home. He remained unbeaten on 20 while Pant remained unbeaten on 40 as India comfortably won the game by 7 wickets to keep the series alive.

Before Dhoni and Pant’s heroics, Rohit Sharma (50) and Shikhar Dhawan (30) had given India the perfect start by sharing 79 runs for the first wicket.

Earlier in the game, New Zealand batsmen failed to replicate their batting heroics of the last game. Both Colin Munro and Tim Seifert, who had top-scored in the last game, failed to get going as New Zealand lost both their openers for just 41 runs on the board. 2 runs later, Daryl Mitchell was dismissed by Krunal Pandya in controversial manner before accounting for Kane Williamson to reduce New Zealand to 50 for 4.

But before India could make further inroads in the game, Colin de Grandhomme launched a stunning counterassault to put the innings back on track. The allrounder slammed 50 off just 28 balls with the help of four sixes and a four. Veteran batsman Ross Taylor then played a calm and composed innings of 42 to help the hosts score a challenging 158 for 8 in the allotted 20 overs.

For India, Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowler. He picked up 3 for 28 to register the best figures by an Indian in T20Is in New Zealand. Khaleel Ahmed, who had conceded 48 runs in the last game, also did well by picking up 2 for 27.

Meanwhile, here is the clip showing Dhoni getting the reception from the fans:
