Pakistan’s fast-bowler Mohammed Irfan will return home from Australia after his mother’s demise, a PCB official confirmed. Irfan, a member of Pakistan’s squad for the ODIs against Australia, is expected to miss the opening phase of the series. Irfan made a comeback to the ODI squad after missing last year’s series against England due to injury.
He was then dropped from the squad for the West Indies series as well. Irfan went to play Quaid-e-Azam trophy for Water and Power Development Authority and bagged 21 wickets in six games he played.
Irfan was to lead the Pakistan’s bowling attack alongside Mohammed Amir but now has been forced to head home. Selectors are yet to name his replacement.
Earlier, Pakistan suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the Tests against a resurgent Australia. The visitors showed some grit and resistance in the first Test but were demolished in the next two Tests.
The ODI series starts on January 13 at the Gabba with the last match to be played on January 26.
