South Africa Vs Australia 2020: 3rd T20I, Cape Town – Australia Win Series With A Dominating Victory
Australia thrashed the hosts South Africa in the series-decider T20I at Cape Town on Wednesday (26th February) night and won the three-match T20I series by the 2-1 margin.
After winning the toss, South Africa decided to field first. While the visitors scored 193/5 (20 overs) in the first innings, the hosts were bundled out for just 96 runs as Australia won this third T20I of this series by 97 runs.
South Africa innings: The hosts’ batsmen failed to play fighting knocks
Right from the beginning of the chasing, the hosts South Africa lost their wickets at regular intervals. Only the opener Rassie van der Dussen (24), Heinrich Klaasen (22), David Miller (15) and Dwaine Pretorius (11) managed to reach the double-digit marks in that innings.
Among the Australian bowlers, the left-arm spinner Ashton Agar (3/16) and the left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc (3/23) bagged three wickets each. Also, Adam Zampa (2/10) took two wickets while Pat Cummins (1/27) and Mitchell Marsh (1/3) claimed a wicket each.
Australian innings: The visiting openers provided a solid start
Australian openers David Warner and captain Aaron Finch provided a very good start with the smashing 120 runs partnership. Both these openers scored half-centuries in that innings. While Warner scored 57 runs off 37 balls (5 fours and 2 sixes), Finch also played almost the look-a-like knock of 55 runs off 37 balls (6 fours and only six).
While both the openers lost their wickets in the back-to-back overs, the next batsmen Matthew Wade (10) and Mitchell Marsh (19) failed to register big scores. However, Steven Smith played the brilliant knock in the death overs as he scored 30 not out off just 15 balls (2 sixes) and helped the team to manage the big first-innings total on the board. In the final over of that innings, Smith hit 20 runs, including two sixes.
All the five South African bowlers picked up one wicket each in that innings.
While the Australian cricketer Mitchell Starc won the Player of the Match award in this game, their captain Aaron Finch was selected for the Player of the Series award.
Australia won the first match of this series by 107 runs while the hosts beat the visitors by 12 runs in the second ODI.
