Australian Cricketers Reunites With Family After Postponement Of IPL 2021

The Australian cricketers involved in the cash-rich league tournament could not fly back directly and had to halt in the Maldives for almost a fortnight due to the ban of direct passenger flights from Covid-hit India to their country. Australian cricketers like Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, and David Warner were among 38 players, coaches, officials and commentators to be released from quarantine at Sydney’s Marriot Hotel.

Many of the Australian cricketers had not seen their family since heading to the IPL in early April. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Pat Cummins and his pregnant partner Becky Boston had an emotional reunion, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler just felt nice to breathe some fresh air.

Jason Behrendorff said it was “tough” being stuck in India and he was “relieved” to be home. Jason Behrendorff, left-arm seamer was named by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood. Josh Hazlewood, who made his IPL debut in 2020 in the UAE, pulled out of the IPL 2021 season citing bubble fatigue and COVID-19 concerns as primary reasons.

“It was nice to know that we were getting home that’s for sure,” Jason Behrendorff said.

“It’s always tough being stuck somewhere, and knowing that we’re able to get home was a relief, and now we’re out of quarantine, I can’t wait to get home and see my family.”

The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI), paid for the flights and accommodation of the Australians in the Maldives and Sydney. Australian cricketer David Warner has finally been reunited with his young family after fleeing coronavirus-riddled India earlier this month. The star batsman was released from hotel quarantine on Monday morning, 14 days after he landed in Sydney from the Maldives.

BCCI Recently Announced That The Remaining Matches Of IPL 2021 Will Be Held Between September And October In UAE

The BCCI recently announced that the remaining matches of the IPL 2021 will be held between September and October in UAE. It added that the tournament was being shifted to the Gulf nation as the monsoons in India will make it difficult to stage the remaining 31 matches. BCCI is yet to announce the fixtures and the participation of overseas players in the resumed season is also not confirmed.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the IPL 2021 Phase 2 will be held in the UAE during the September-October window. The decision was taken during the Special General Meeting on Saturday that was held virtually. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly chaired the meeting from Mumbai.

The reason why the BCCI hasn’t announced the dates is Caribbean Premier League. CPL 2021 is scheduled from 28th Aug to Sep 19th. As BCCI wants to start IPL 2021 remaining games from Sep 17th, they want CPL 2021 to be advanced by 7-10 days so that all Caribbean and other cricketers stay available for IPL Phase 2.  BCCI will now put in a request to Cricket West Indies to advance the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2021) by a week to 10 days.
Not only the West Indies, but the BCCI is not sure about the availability of most of the foreign cricketers in IPL 2021. England has already said no, cricketers from New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are also doubtful, so are the players from the West Indies.
Australia will tour Bangladesh, New Zealand is set for Bangladesh and Pakistan (or the UAE),  England has agreed to visit Bangladesh and Pakistan (or the UAE), Pakistan and Afghanistan have scheduled a bilateral series around or during the time of the IPL and West Indies players will play CPL.
