Australian cricketers have finally completed their mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine in Sydney and have reunited with their family for the first time after the IPL 2021 was postponed on May 4.

The Australian cricketers involved in the cash-rich league tournament could not fly back directly and had to halt in the Maldives for almost a fortnight due to the ban of direct passenger flights from Covid-hit India to their country. Australian cricketers like Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, and David Warner were among 38 players, coaches, officials and commentators to be released from quarantine at Sydney’s Marriot Hotel.
Many of the Australian cricketers had not seen their family since heading to the IPL in early April. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Pat Cummins and his pregnant partner Becky Boston had an emotional reunion, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fast bowler just felt nice to breathe some fresh air.
“It was nice to know that we were getting home that’s for sure,” Jason Behrendorff said.
“It’s always tough being stuck somewhere, and knowing that we’re able to get home was a relief, and now we’re out of quarantine, I can’t wait to get home and see my family.”
The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI), paid for the flights and accommodation of the Australians in the Maldives and Sydney. Australian cricketer David Warner has finally been reunited with his young family after fleeing coronavirus-riddled India earlier this month. The star batsman was released from hotel quarantine on Monday morning, 14 days after he landed in Sydney from the Maldives.
BCCI Recently Announced That The Remaining Matches Of IPL 2021 Will Be Held Between September And October In UAE
The BCCI recently announced that the remaining matches of the IPL 2021 will be held between September and October in UAE. It added that the tournament was being shifted to the Gulf nation as the monsoons in India will make it difficult to stage the remaining 31 matches. BCCI is yet to announce the fixtures and the participation of overseas players in the resumed season is also not confirmed.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the IPL 2021 Phase 2 will be held in the UAE during the September-October window. The decision was taken during the Special General Meeting on Saturday that was held virtually. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly chaired the meeting from Mumbai.
