The Hobart Hurricanes have opted a complete overhaul ahead of the upcoming seventh season of the BBL. After getting a new coach and a new CEO, the side has re-signed Tasmanian duo of George Bailey and Tim Paine for the next season in a bid to improve their seventh-placed finish last season.
These signings have had ended all the speculation surrounding their move to another club. Bailey will also once again lead the side. He led the side till the fifth season before Tim Paine took over. Pain, on the other hand, will be taking up the vice captaincy role instead.
“I’m really excited about this opportunity, it’s been a couple of years since I’ve had the captaincy,” Bailey said.
“There’s been a few changes –, so there’ll be a different feel around the group.
“It’s the one tournament Tasmania hasn’t won yet, so I’m looking forward to rectifying that.”
Both the cricketers are currently in Pakistan as a part of the World XI team playing the Independence Cup. Hurricanes used to be one of the most outstanding performers in the BBL and reached the peak of their dominance in the 4th season when they reached the finals. But, since then, the side has been struggling to get their act together and make a lasting impact on the point table. They haven’t made it past the group stage in the last two season.
“I’m really excited by the opportunity to work with George as vice-captain this season. I think our leadership styles will work well together,” Paine said.
“We’ve obviously both been with the Hurricanes for some time now, and it’s great to have a couple of Tasmanians leading the side.
“Hopefully with the squad, we’re putting together we can be a really competitive side in BBL|07 and get back to playing in the finals.”
