Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is willing to host a farewell match for the former Indian cricketer MS Dhoni once they consult him. The last match for the wicketkeeper-batsman is likely to be organised after the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 slated from 19th September to 10th November.

Although there were speculations that MS Dhoni might retire after not playing for India for little over a year. Nevertheless, nobody had expected his sudden retirement announcement on India’s Independence day. Everyone wanted to see Dhoni for the last time in the blue jersey since he last played for India in the World Cup 2019.

Speaking to IANS, a senior BCCI official said that Dhoni deserved a farewell match because of the contribution he has given to Indian cricket. But because of the coronavirus hiatus, no international series is scheduled for India so the board might look to host a special match for Dhoni after the IPL.

“There is no international series right now, maybe after the IPL we will see what can be done because Dhoni has done a lot for the nation and he deserves all the respect. We always wanted to have a farewell match for him but Dhoni is a different player. He announced his retirement when nobody was thinking of it,” the official said.

The official further informed that the board will speak to Dhoni, during the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, and plan accordingly.

“No, but surely we will speak to him during the IPL and that would be the right place to get his opinion about a match or series. Well, there will be a proper felicitation ceremony for him no matter if he agrees on it or not. That will be our honour to felicitate him.”

Chennai Super Kings‘ player MS Dhoni will be gearing up to play the IPL 2020. Currently, he is in Chennai preparing for the league.
