As International Cricket Council (ICC) will have a virtual meeting on Monday, BCCI is hoping for the final decision on the fate of the T20 World Cup 2020. The coronavirus crises have put the hosting of the mega event in doubt, which is scheduled from mid-October to November in Australia. The Indian Board is waiting for the final call on the postponement of the ICC tournament for scheduling the IPL 2020 during the same window.
Cricket Australia (CA), who has the hosting right of the T20 World Cup, has opined that they might be unable to organize the tournament amid the pandemic. However, ICC has been holding the final decision on suspending the event for more than two months.
“The first step was the postponement of the Asia Cup, which has happened. We can only start to move ahead with our plans after the ICC announces the postponement. They have been sitting on the decision even after Cricket Australia said that they are not too keen on hosting the event,” a BCCI Apex Council member told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
BCCI is trying hard to begin the training camp for the Indian players
As the coronavirus cases are rising at rapid speed in India, there seems no way for the BCCI to start collective training. Major cities like Mumbai, Kolkata and many more are seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases even after implementing two months strict lockdown. So, the Indian board is exploring options to bring back cricket.
India is scheduled to tour Australia to play three-match T20I, four-match Test and three-match ODI series in the late this year. However, the T20I series might get suspended if ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 gets postponed.
As per reports, BCCI might schedule the training session for Team India’s player in Ahmedabad ahead of the Australia tour. The renovated Motera Stadium is being considered for the venue because of its advanced services.
