Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun

Ravi Shastri is all set to table a meeting with the BCCI official today at the BCCI headquarters on 2 PM and the agenda of the meet is clear. The newly appointed Head Coach of Indian cricket team needs his favourite man Bharat Arun as the bowling coach of Indian cricket team for the second time.

BCCI hasn’t announced any bowling coach as of yet and in all possibility, Arun is expected to be handed the job due to the fact that Shastri wants a free hand in the team so as to come up with the results. (Read Here: Umesh Yadav Becomes RBI Assistant Manager)

The power of Shastri can be known by the fact that even the appointment of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan were neglected by BCCI and it was informed that it will be Shastri who will take a final call on this matter.

However, there are little chances of him taking a call on this matter today as the main motive of today’s meeting is to get his man in the Indian coaching staff.

Arun served as the bowling coach of Indian cricket team from 2014-16 when Ravi Shastri was the Director of Indian cricket team. His contract was not renewed by BCCI in the year 2016 and Arun was also released as Anil Kumble – former India Head Coach – did not find need of any bowling coach. Shastri though is keen to have a man in that role.(Read Here: R Ashwin Dodges Question On Ravi Shastri)

The second agenda of the meeting between Shastri and BCCI officials were expected to the appointments of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan. On July 11, when Shastri was announced as the Head Coach of Indian cricket team, the same day, BCCI appointed Rahul Dravid as the batting consultant for overseas Test tours and Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant till 2019.

Later, though, their appointments were put on hold and Shastri was to take a final call. The former Indian all-rounder is not expected to take a call on this matter today, which means that there will be just Shastri and Arun –  if appointed –  as the new men in the Indian dressing room for the Sri Lanka series apart from other support staff comprising of Sanjay Bangar and R Sridhar.
