A big setback for India ahead of the tournament opener

There were a lot of murmurs regarding the nature of the pitch at the VCA Stadium, Nagpur. Be it any match, the pitch holds paramount importance and is a crucial factor which has a direct bearing on the outcome of the game. The main round of the World T20 will begin from tonight with India facing New Zealand in the tournament opener.

To put an end to the rounds of speculations and rumors regarding the Nagpur deck, we have found out that the Nagpur pitch will be a belter for the batters. The pitch is expected to be batting-friendly and a high-scoring thriller. Recently, the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) was reprimanded for producing a pitch which was deemed as poor by the ICC during the Test series between India and South Africa. ICC has issued strict guidelines regarding the nature of pitch at Nagpur for the marquee event.

Amar Karlekar, the VCA pitch curator was quoted by Deccan Chronicle saying that, “We are preparing and following instructions of the ICC. Twenty20 games are only for batsmen. It’s going to be a batsmen-friendly wicket and the pitch will help seamers and not spinners, maybe just minimum help to the tweakers. The pitch has been designed for a high-scoring game.”

The pitch is expected to remain unchanged during the course of the game. The dew factor is also unlikely to play any role in the match. It is no secret that the Indian team relies heavily on its spinners to come good against opponents and such a strip which is likely to remain flat and assist seamers is certainly a huge setback for the Indian camp before the match. The spinning duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja is expected to play a major role in this edition of the World T20.
