Chris Gayle, who plays for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) said his retirement is not coming anytime soon after teammate Mandeep Singh told him to never retire despite being on the higher side of 40 years of age.

KXIP defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by eight wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) here on Monday with bereaved Mandeep Singh scoring an unbeaten 66 and Man of the Match Chris Gayle contributing with 51 off 29 balls with 2 fours and 5 sixes.

Chris Gayle Should Never Retire – Mandeep Singh Who Lost His Father Recently

After the match, iplt20.com posted a video of Chris Gayle interviewing opener Mandeep Singh. During the conversation, Mandeep Singh told the hard-hitting batsman that he should never retire. During the post-match press conference, Mandeep Singh had said that the West Indian batsman is “probably the greatest T20 player ever”.

“He (Gayle) should never retire. He is always in great touch. I have never seen him struggle. He is probably the greatest T20 player ever,” Singh had said.

In reply, the 41-year-old Chris Gayle said “cancel retirement” and added that “no retirement coming anytime soon”.
Chris Gayle is the most capped player for the West Indies in international cricket and is the only player to score a triplet of centuries – a triple hundred in Tests, double hundred in ODIs and a hundred in T20Is.

He has scored 42 international centuries, which includes 15 Tests, 25 ODIs and 2 T20I centuries. He was the first cricketer to score centuries in all three formats of the game. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, he scored a 30-ball century, that became the highest individual T20 score (175 not out) against defunct Pune Warriors India.

He holds the record for most centuries in Twenty20 cricket (22) which is 15 more than his nearest rival Brendon McCullum of New Zealand.

Mandeep Singh: Late Father Asked Me To Remain Unbeaten In Every Game

Mandeep Singh’s father had passed away on Friday. Mandeep Singh said his father used to tell him that he should remain not out in every game.

“My father always used to tell me that you should remain not out in every game and that is what I wanted to do today. Before the game, I spoke to Rahul, telling him that let me play my game and even if I take a few balls initially, I can win games for the team. I think my father would be really happy today that I finished the game and remained not out,” Singh said.

This was KXIP’s fifth straight win in the tournament and the team has now claimed the fourth spot on the points table. Mandeep Singh and Chris Gayle scored 66 not out and 51 runs respectively to help KXIP chase down the target of 150 runs, set by KKR.

KXIP next face Rajasthan Royals on 30th October in the 50th match of IPL 2020 while KKR who are placed 5th after the loss will play Chennai Super Kings a day earlier in 29th October.
