CPL 2020, Match 11: St Kitts And Nevis Patriots Vs Barbados Tridents (Match Report) – Desperate Evin Lewis Secures Patriots First Victory In This Season, Updated Points Table

On Thursday (25th August) morning, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots registered their first victory in the CPL 2020 after beating the defending champions Barbados Tridents by six wickets (with three balls to spare) in the 11th match of the tournament.

After winning the toss, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots decided to field first. While Barbados Tridents scored 151/7 (20 overs), Patriots chased down that target in 19.3 overs after losing four wickets.

Match report

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots innings: Desperate Evin Lewis set up the game, Ben Dunk finished the game in style

Chasing down the target, opener Evin Lewis played the big role as he fought very hard in that challenging chasing. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots openers Lewis and Chris Lynn started with 34 runs partnership, where Lynn scored 16 runs before the leg-spinner Rashid Khan dismissed him on his very first ball of the match.

Soon, Joshua Da Silva was also dismissed for just one run as Tridents’ skipper Jason Holder picked up that wicket.

Though Lewis and wicket-keeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin set up the crucial 78 runs partnership for the third wicket, Ramdin disappointed with his low strike-rate as he scored 20 off 32 balls (only four).

The left-handed opening batsman Lewis, who completed his fifty in 28 balls after hitting three successive sixes, batted tirelessly with the goal of finishing the game. When the team needed 20 runs off 10 balls, tired Lewis was caught out at the long-off, but before that, he scored the most crucial 89 runs off 60 balls with the help of 2 fours and 9 sixes.

In the final over, Patriots had to score 13 runs to register their first victory in this tournament. Ben Dunk’s sixer to Nyeem Young on the second delivery of that final over brought the team closure to the victory. Dunk secured Patriots first victory in the CPL 2020 with another sixer on the third ball of that over. Dunk remained not out on 22 runs off 11 balls (only four and 2 sixes).

Barbados Tridents: Corey Anderson and Ashley Nurse’s batting secured 150+ total after the 50-run opening partnership

Barbados Tridents openers Johnson Charles and wicket-keeper batsman Shai Hope provided the 50-run partnership for the first wicket. But after that partnership was broken, Tridents lost their first four wickets in 29 runs. While Charles and Hope scored 24 and 29 runs respectively, Kyle Mayers scored 22 runs.

Struggling on 79/4, Corey Anderson and Ashley Nurse provided the crucial 56 runs partnership for the fifth wicket. While Anderson finally showed his form as he scored 31 runs off 19 balls (3 sixes), Nurse scored 25 runs off just 17 balls (only four and 2 sixes).

Among St Kitts and Nevis Patriots bowlers, only Jon-Russ Jaggesar managed to claim more than one wicket as he had the bowling figures of 4-0-17-2.

The defending champions Barbados Tridents haven’t got a good start in this tournament as they lost the last two matches after winning their first match in this season. Meanwhile, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots have suffered losses in all their first three games of this tournament.

Talking about these two teams in this season, Tridents were unlucky in their second game as rain played a vital role in their defeat. Also, Tridents started the CPL 2020 with a victory against Patriots.

According to the present form, Tridents are favourite for the upcoming matches, and the chance will be stronger if their batsmen perform well.

On the other hand, Patriots are desperate for their first victory in this tournament and they have some game-changing players to change their present luck immediately.

Their top-order batsmen Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis and Joshua Da Silva are very important while Ben Dunks will have to take more responsibility.

Captain Rayad Emrit has performed very well with the ball in hand, while left-arm pacer Sohail Tanvir is also very positive. T20 specialist leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has disappointed in this tournament and his improvement will be vital for his team to achieve success in the upcoming matches.

Their bowling squad is very strong enough, especially when they have spinners like Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, Hayden Walsh Jr etc.
