5 things India need to do to beat West Indies
India will take on West Indies in the second semi-finals of the ICC World T20 2016 tournament. It promises to be a mouth-watering clash. India reached the semi-finals of the tournament after losing their first match against New Zealand while West Indies won 3 successive matches before losing their last league match against Afghanistan. India needs to play their best cricket tomorrow.
Here we look at the 5 things that India needs to beat West Indies.
- Openers need to click
In the ICC World T20 2016 tournament so far the Indian openers, Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma has not provided the Indian team good starts. The best stand between these two openers has been 42 against Bangladesh. Both of them are playing shots early. Both of them need to spend time in the middle. In the semi-finals against West Indies tomorrow, both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma need to give the team a good start to the team which will help India to post a competitive total on the board.
- Get rid of Gayle early
The main threat for the Indian team in tomorrow’s match will be Chris Gayle. Chris Gayle always provides the West Indies team flying starts. In this tournament, he has scored a century off 48 balls against England at the same venue. Gayle is someone who can destroy any bowling line up on its day. MS Dhoni the captain of the Indian team should think of starting with R Ashwin or Ashish Nehra. If Chris Gayle stays for few over’s, the Indian team might be in deep trouble. It is important for the Indian team to take the early wicket of Gayle to prevent the West Indies team from scoring a big total.
- Other batsmen, apart from Kohli, need to score runs
Virat Kohli has been the only Indian batsmen to score runs on a consistent basis. In the match against Australia, India was struggling at one stage but he came and played a match-winning knock of 82 helping India to reach the semi-finals of the tournament. The other Indian batsmen like Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan needs to contribute to putting less pressure on Virat Kohli. Virat Kohli is the leading runs scorer in the tournament with 184 runs in 4 matches. If India needs to beat West Indies in tomorrow’s semi-finals, other batsmen need to step up and help India to reach the finals.
- More of the same from Indian Bowlers
The Indian bowling which was used to be its weakness has turned into a strength in this tournament so far. Jasprit Bumrah, Ashish Nehra, R Ashwin, Jadeja, Pandya all have bowled brilliantly to help India to reach the semi-finals. Australia had got off a great start scoring 53 off 4 over’s but the Indian bowlers came back and restricted the Australian innings to 160. If India has to reach the finals, then Indian bowlers should continue their impressive run and stop the run flow of big hitting West Indies batsmen.
- MS Dhoni’s the captain to lead from the front
MS Dhoni is one of the best captain in the world, especially in the shorter format. He brings right bowling changes at the right time and gives youngsters to perform on the big stage. In this tournament, Hardik Pandya has been one example who have performed in the field, ball and few times with the bat. In tomorrow’s big match against West Indies at Mumbai, MS Dhoni must remain calm as a captain. If MS Dhoni remains calm then India cannot be stopped from reaching another ICC tournament final.
