Off late, the slow over-rate has become a problematic aspect to the game of cricket, especially, in the T20 format. The ongoing Indian Premier League is not an exception, as the skippers of each franchise are paying their fine for the same reason on a regular basis. The latest to come under the hammer is Ravichandran Ashwin.
The problem is not a new one, as the games are finishing late throughout the tournament. Already players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma came under the hammer for the slow over-rate.
Ravichandran Ashwin Is Charged with INR 12 Lakhs
In the last night match against Delhi Capitals, Kings XI Punjab failed to finish the math in the required Time. The dew also has been the concern for them, which kept them delaying things on a consistent basis.
For the slow over-rate, the skipper Ravichandran Ashwin is charged with INR 12 lakh (USD 17000 approx)
However, of late, the matches are going down to the wire and the skippers of both teams are least worried about that, as their primary focus is on winning the game. The game between KKR and Delhi Capitals, which ended up resulting in super over has seen crossing the mid-night time.
Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma, Rajasthan Royals’ Ex-skipper Ajinkya Rahane, and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Virat Kohli are the other captains to have been fined for similar offence earlier in the season.
As per the IPL playing conditions, a match needs to be over in roughly 200 minutes.
Ashwin was let off with a fine because it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct. Meanwhile, KXIP lost its reverse fixture to Delhi by five wickets.
Punjab posted a target of 164 runs, owing to Chris Gayle’s knock of 69 runs off just 37 deliveries. But Delhi had no problem in chasing down the total as both Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer scored half-centuries to guide the team over the line.
