2017 Records: Top Five Highest T20I Team Totals
Batting in International cricket has reached enormous heights in the past decade and the speed of the game has increased immensely all thanks to the rise of T20 cricket. Players all around the world are so engaged in played franchisee cricket that their normal style of playing has automatically crept into their normal style of playing. 2017 had 51 T20 international matches which had fans on the edge of their seats.
Batsmen had the better of the bowlers throughout the year. Let’s have a look at the top five highest score in the T20 format.
- Ireland (205) vs Afghanistan, Greater Noida, 12th March
Ireland toured India for a limited overs series against Afghanistan as India hosted the home matches for Afghanistan. Having won the first two T20 matches of the series the last match was a dead rubber as the series had already been decided. However, Afghanistan was in no mood to put their foot off the pedal. Ireland won the chose to bowl first. In the highest scoring match, Afghanistan set Ireland a target of 234. The Irish fell 28 runs short of the target as they were dismissed for 205 in the second innings.
- Ireland (211/6) vs Scotland, Dubai, 20th January
Ireland and Scotland played in the semi-final of the Desert Cup early this year and Ireland had a comfortable over the Scottish side. Ireland won the toss and chose to bat first. Paul Stirling and Stuart Poynter tore apart the opposition bowling line up as they scored a quick fire 60 and 39 respectively. Wicketkeeper-batsman Gary Wilson then scored an unbeaten 65 to take the total to a daunting 211. Ireland won the match by a huge margin of 98 runs.
- South Africa (224/4) vs Bangladesh, Potchefstroom, 29th October
David Miller scored the fastest T20 international century in just 35 balls in this match. Miller came into bat in the 10th over of the match with South Africa’s score at 78/3. Miller hit Saifuddin for four consecutive sixes in an over. Hashim Amla scored a 51 ball 85. Bangladesh was bundled out for just 141 runs as the tourists lost by a huge margin of 83 runs.
- Afghanistan (233/8) vs Ireland, Greater Noida, 12th March
Ireland recorded their highest score of the year in the second innings of the match while chasing a daunting target set by the Afghan side. Afghanistan was sent in to bat first by the Irish captain but the decision backfired. Afghanistan set Ireland a target of 234 runs. Mohammed Shahzad and Mohammed Nabi were the highlights for the Afghan side. Shahzad scored 72 runs while Nabi was run out on 89 on 30 balls.
- India (260/5) vs Sri Lanka, Indore, 22 December
Rohit Sharma equaled the record for hitting the fastest T20 century in 35 as he joined David Miller at the top of the list. Miller was at the top of the list for 53 days as Rohit caused mayhem at the Holkar stadium as India scored 260/5. India won the match by 88 runs as KL Rahul’s 49 ball 89 helped India accelerate in the middle overs of the match.
