On July 9 (Tuesday) Cricket West Indies (CWI) had revealed players’ control for the season of 2019-20. Interestingly, the Caribbean board has increased the number to seven from four in terms of player contracts across formats.

The decision came after Windies bow out of the World Cup campaign on a low. Jason Holder-led side had managed just two wins in overall nine league stage matches. They managed to beat Pakistan by seven wickets on 31st of May before beating Afghanistan in their last game.

In between, they also gave a scare to New Zealand. The Kane Williamson-led side further progressed into the semi-finals as the fourth team. Windies finished ninth on the points table which further same them struggling against high-quality teams.

To talk about the contracts, the Windies board had made a massive announcement by including Nicholas Pooran, Oshane Thomas and Fabian Allen as the first-timers in the central contract list of players.

The trio had managed to bag ODI contracts apart from Sheldon Cottrell, who’s also known for his military-style salute.

While naming the all-format players’ list, Holder alongside Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer, Kemar Roch, Shai Hope, Keemo Paul and Alzarri Joseph have made it to the coveted list.

By considering the evaluation of players which took place between April 2018 and March 31st, CWI had continued to announce separate contracts since 2017. Also, by going the policy of Windies board, the maximum of 22 players would be handed an agreement for 12 months.

So, the latest contract will run between July 1st and June 30 with as many as 19 players making it to the men’s contract list.

On the other side, at least 15 women’s cricketers have bagged central contracts for the same period. Earlier, 12 cricketers were handed a contract. Thus, it means the board has extended the number of players to three.
