Grading the current Indian team as the best in world right now, Indian batting great Sachin Tendulkar saif dhe team now reminds him the Indian squad of the 2002-03 era.
Speaking further, the batsman said he could relate the traits of the current crop of players to that of Indian team back then, where, from the top-order to lower order, the batsmen could scare life out of bowlers.
The current bunch of cricketers remind me of the team we had in 2002-2003. We had (Virender) Sehwag opening the innings, Rahul (Dravid) came at No.3, followed by me in No.4, Sourav (Ganguly) at No.5 and (VVS) Laxman at No.6. I see the same team in the present one. To me, it is the best side in the world.
Keeping in mind India’s emphatic win over England in the Mohali Test, Sachin praised the balance of the side saying the team have managed to extract success against the best of the sides and is also capable of winning the games outside the sub-continent conditions.
Pressing on the batting strength of the team, he said the line-up looks strong and can dominate any opposition on their day. Apart from the batters, the 43-year-old also showered some motivating words on the bowlers, admitting the team is blessed to have a quality a bowling line-up.
We have the right balance as far as quality fast bowlers and spinners are concerned. We have a well balanced side with a very strong batting line-up.
Sachin, who played alongside Anil Kumble for as many as 18 years, complimented the leg-spinner. He admitted Indian team is in safe hands and will only go places under his guidance.
They have got an ideal man to guide them in Anil Kumble. To have Anil in the dressing room is a once in a lifetime opportunity. It is fantastic to have him.
India will face England in the fourth Test at Mumbai, starting December 8.
