Danish Kaneria, former Pakistan spinner, however, was upset with Pakistan’s limited-overs squad selection to face Australia and lashed out at the selection committee and the team management, even going to the extent of saying that they are “destroying the career” of the players.

Pakistan produced a magnificent performance with the bat in the second Test of the series against Australia, as the side held the visitors to a draw in Karachi. The side’s captain Babar Azam scored a magnificent 196, while Mohammad Rizwan also smashed a century (107*) and opener Abdullah Shafique scored a gritty 96 to salvage a draw for the home side.

Danish Kaneria :  Injustice Continues With The Pakistan Players

Following the end of the second Test, Pakistan announced their ODI and T20I squad for the upcoming limited-overs series against Australia, but Danish Kaneria was unhappy with the selections.

“Injustice continues with the players. The same conversation keeps happening again and again; why are you destroying their career instead of making them?” Danish Kaneria said.

“Sarfaraz Ahmed is almost at the end of his career. I don’t think he is even in the plan of the selectors. But look how he was treated; he was removed first, brought back, was played in select few games and was largely kept on bench. Worse, they could’ve rather invested in a youngster in his place like Rohail Nazeer. You brought him in for one year and then removed him. You are not making players, you are destroying them.”

Veteran keeper Sarfaraz Ahmed, who led Pakistan to the 2017 Champions Trophy title, played his last Test match against South Africa in January 2019. The 34-year-old player, who isn’t part of the Pakistan Test squad, was also excluded from the white-ball squads (3 ODIs and 1 T20I) against Australia.

Pakistan could offer debuts to two new players after Asif Afridi and Mohammad Haris were named in the squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia. The uncapped pair are part of a 20-man squad for three one-day internationals against the Australians, and are also named in a reduced 17-man squad for a one-off T20I, with both teams to be captained by Babar Azam.

Asif Afridi had performed well in the PSL 2022, picking 8 wickets in 5 matches and Mohammad Haris batted with a strike rate of 186.5 and smashed 166 runs in 5 games. Selectors have not included Abdullah Shafique, Imam-Ul-Haq and Saud Shakeel in the squad for one-off T20I against Australia.

Danish Kaneria Rues Absence Of Naseem Shah And Shaan Masood In ODI And T20I Team

Further talking about the limited-overs squads, Danish Kaneria said that Naseem Shah and Shaan Masood should’ve been included in the team.

“The ODI and T20I team that was selected for Australia series.. Naseem Shah, who bowled brilliantly in the PSL, is absent from the squads. He took a hat-trick as well.

“Shaan Masood, who played brillianly in the PSL for Multan Sultans and forged an excellent partnership with Mohammad Rizwan, was also absent. He was brought in the Test team but he isn’t played; instead, Imam-ul-Haq is played and he has also been named in the ODI squad,” said Danish Kaneria.

“In Lahore, Pakistan will most-likely be keeping Shaan on the bench again, because if he scores, it will put pressure on the selection committee.”

Shan Masood amassed 478 runs in 12 innings for Multan Sultans at a strike rate of 137.32 in the PSL 2022 where he was the 3rd highest run-getter after Mohammad Rizwan (546) and Fakhar Zaman (588). Quetta pace bowler Naseem Shah claimed 14 wickets from 10 matches at an economy rate of 8.01. Both were dropped from the white-ball squad. Shan Masood, however, is part of the Test squad but hasn’t played a single Test in the series so far.
