Deep Dasgupta, former Indian cricketer said that Rohit Sharma’s injury could be the only reason for his non-inclusion in the squad for the Australian tour. He will undoubtedly be included in the squad once the Mumbai Indians batsman becomes fit.

Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury in the game against KXIP and has subsequently missed the last two matches of Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2020. Deep Dasgupta felt that if he was fit, he had to be included in the team.

Rohit Sharma Not Included For India’s Tour Of Australia

The exclusion of Indian dashing opener hitman Rohit Sharma from the squad announced on Monday by the BCCI for India’s tour of Australia has left most people surprised. India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma’s name was missing from the squad of all three formats.

The Mumbai Indians skipper has been out with injury and has missed his franchise’s last two matches in IPL 2020, which prompted the selectors to think otherwise. But a couple of hours later, the ‘Hitman’ could be seen batting in the nets which raised confusion.

Ishant Sharma

However, the BCCI through its official release made it clear that they will be monitoring the batsman’s injury.

“The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor the progress of Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma,” the BCCI official release said.

However, the inclusion of an injured opener Mayank Agarwal in all three squads and also declaring KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the Indian team has led to a lot of confusion and critics have been questioning the decision of selectors. Both pacers Ishant Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were injured and not named in any of the three squads for tour to Australia.

Deep Dasgupta: It’s Just A Matter Of Time Before Rohit Sharma Is 100% Fit

Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta also said that the injury concern could be the only possible reason for the non-inclusion of Rohit Sharma and added that once he is fully fit, he has to be included in the squad for the tour of Australia.

“Rohit still hasn’t played any game in a while now, but I guess if he is fit to play for the Mumbai Indians then he will be part of the national team. But what I know is that he is still 50:50, although he has just started to bat in the nets.”

Deep Dasgupta

“I guess it is just a matter of time. As soon as he is fit to play a game or a few games, then he will be ready. It is a hamstring issue and you don’t want to include someone who is not 100 percent fit,” the former batsman said on Sports Today.

Deep Dasgupta was of the opinion that a fit Rohit Sharma will be able to walk into all the three teams in each format without any doubt and vice-captain’s name should have been announced later.

“If Rohit is fit he has to be there. There is no doubt about it. Maybe Mayank Agarwal’s injury is not as serious and therefore his name is included. But a fit Rohit Sharma has to be included in the team.”

When pointed out about the confusion it will create after the declaration of KL Rahul as the vice-captain of the team, Deep Dasgupta said that the BCCI could have avoided that for now.

“Maybe announcing the vice-captain could have been on hold. They could have waited for Rohit’s injury details for another week, and then gone ahead with it [declaring the vice-captain],” he said.

Deep Dasgupta felt that announcing the vice-captain should have been withheld until Rohit Sharma gets ready.
