After the Nagpur T20I against Bangladesh, everyone is praising the Indian pacer Deepak Chahar. The 27-year-old Deepak Chahar credited his father in shaping his cricket career.
Deepak Chahar first grabbed the attention through his consistent performances for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). After impressing in domestic cricket and IPL, the right-arm pacer has earned the opportunity to wear the Indian team jersey.

In the early period of his international career, Chahar has shown his top-quality potential and that too in challenging times. Sunday night was one of those where most of the other Indian bowlers were failing to handle the wet ball. In that same period, Chahar handled that situation powerfully and secured a great victory.
Chasing down the 175 runs target, Bangladesh were once batting on 110/2. Though Chahar started with two back-to-back wickets, Indian captain Rohit Sharma reserved him for the crucial period of that game. Chahar returned in the crucial overs and dominated that innings.
I like to take responsibility and I thrive on challenges – Deepak Chahar
At the end of that game, Deepak Chahar became the first Indian male cricketer to claim a T20I hat-trick. Moreover, he achieved the best ever bowling figures in T20I history which were 3.2-0-7-6. His powerful bowling destroyed the Bangladesh batting line-up and bowled out the hosts for 144 runs. While it was the series decider game in that three-match T20I series, India finally won that series by 2-1.
Talking about bowling successfully in a challenging period, Chahar told India Today, “I like to take responsibility and I thrive on challenges. I have always believed in my abilities and that can make a huge difference in anybody’s game. Confidence makes all the difference, provided it is in the right amount. I have been through a lot in my cricket career and that’s why I am no stranger to challenges. In fact, I love them and perhaps, that is what gets the best out of me.”
After making his international debut in July 2018, Deepak Chahar has played seven T20Is and only ODI where he has taken 14 and one wickets respectively.
Deepak Chahar has credited his father in shaping his career.
Chahar said, “I have always believed in hard work and credit to my father, who has given his life in shaping my career. He was not a cricketer but he has coached two cricketers – me and my brother (Rahul Chahar) – who are part of the Indian team at the moment. I know every father has a special place in the life his child but trust me, I cannot describe in words about his contribution.”
I am ready for every role
Indian national cricket team is getting ready to shape a competitive team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. While the Indian team has the top pacers like Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar etc., Deepak Chahar’s strong entry has brought more choice for the national team.
When he was asked about his possibility to feature in the next year’s T20 World Cup, Deepak Chahar has claimed that he always focuses one game at a time.
He said, “I am ready for every role that I am given. But if you ask me, as I said, I prefer to take the responsibility upfront. I always take it one game at a time and right now, I just wish to keep going the way I am at the moment. By god’s grace and my hard work, I have reached here, let’s see where it takes me from here on.”
