Delhi Daredevils (DD) IPL 2017 Schedule: Focus Remains On Young Brigade As Team Seeks Dominance

At first glance, Delhi Daredevils looks full of all-rounders. This appears as their single biggest strength. But unfortunately, all is not as bright as it looks upon a closer review. Corey Anderson, the new addition, is yet to regain his bowling form while Angelo Mathews’ availability is subject to fitness. Chris Morris, on the other hand, will leave for national duty halfway into the tournament. JP Duminy and Carlos Brathwaite are couple of names that seem like useful in the lot.

Kagiso Rabada was their costliest buy in this year’s auction with a price of Rs 5 crores. He adds some serious pace to their fast-bowling attack, which also has Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Shami. The problem, however, lies in the fitness of the other two. Maybe, keeping this in mind, the Delhi franchise also went up for Patrick Cummins, who was snapped for Rs 4.5 crores.

Another exciting addition to their squad is leg-spinner Murugan Ashwin. The Tamil Nadu leggie did not have a great debut season for Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG) but is highly rated by many. He would be fighting for a place with fellow veteran Amit Mishra, Shahbaz Nadeem and Jayant Yadav in the spin bowling department.

Batting department as usual looks promising with the likes of Quinton de Kock, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair, Sam Billings and Rishabh Pant forming the core of the batting-order. This is perhaps the youngest of all batting line-ups among other IPL teams. All individuals are highly talented and have been brilliant so far in their career.

But the question is – Will they be able to put together collective efforts that’ll help their team make an impact? In the past seasons, it hasn’t happened and the franchise has ended up floating in the lower half of the point table for a good number of times. Let’s see what happens this time around.
