Dewald Brevis said that he idolized a lot of players, like Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav and said he absolutely enjoyed playing alongside them for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2022. Dewald Brevis said he learned a lot from his time in the competition last year.

Dewald Brevis revealed his admiration for India’s Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav and opened up on his experience playing in the IPL with Mumbai Indians.

Dewald Brevis Idolized Rohit Sharma And Suryakumar Yadav While Playing For Mumbai Indians In IPL 2022

Dewald Brevis had a great time in the tournament last year as people took note of his performances for the five-time IPL Champions. The youngster has carried on his affiliation with MI as he is now part of MI Cape Town in the SA20. Dewald Brevis said that the setup is fantastic in Cape Town, just like it was in Mumbai.

“My blood is blue and my favorite colour is blue. So to just be able to be part of this one family, it’s been amazing like the setup everything is absolutely fantastic here in Cape Town, just like it is in Mumbai itself. So to be part of this family is absolutely amazing,” said Dewald Brevis.

The young South African batter said he idolized a lot of players like Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav and enjoyed playing alongside them. Dewald Brevis said he learned a lot at the IPL and had many fanboy moments during his time in the competition.

“I idolized a lot of players like for example, Rohit Sharma and Surya Kumar and all other big players, I absolutely enjoyed playing with these legends.”

“I think I learned a lot at the IPL. I had fanboy moments after meeting these stars but my coaching team made me feel that I belong in the Family and advised me not to be overawed, I think that helped me too.”

The young South African said he idolized Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav and had a major fanboy moment when he joined MI during the IPL 2022. The right-handed batsman scored 161 runs in seven outings in his first season for MI.

Only 18 years of age, Dewald Brevis was paid a handsome INR 3 crore by Mumbai Indians to have the South African in their corner following high-voltage bidding in IPL 2022 auctions. Those who followed the ICC U19 World Cup 2022 know what he is capable of doing.

At such a young age, he has already drawn comparisons with the great AB de Villiers and the cricketing community has started calling him the ‘Baby AB’. He finished the ICC U19 World Cup 2022 tournament as the highest run-scorer, amassing 506 runs in six games, including two hundreds and three half-centuries averaging 84.33.

Dewald Brevis Enjoying Every Single Moment In SA20

Dewald Brevis opened up on his experience with MI Cape Town and said he is enjoying every single moment in SA20.

“It’s new things that you pick up from them. They give you vital information. Hash (Hashim Amla), he’s such an amazing coach and person so he just brings calmness in me and helps me move a lot of things.”

“Same with coach Simon, he’s amazing as the coach. So there’s always time to share things and learn from him. We always speak a lot about that and about things going on with my batting. So all the coaches share so much good information that you can take into your game,” he added.

“Am really enjoying every single moment (in SA20). The home ground of MI Cape Town at Newlands is a special place (for us). We already had special memories (here),” said Dewald Brevis. 

The right-handed batter played a brilliant knock of 70 runs against the Paarl Royals in the opening game and guided his team to victory. The 19-year-old has scored 135 runs in six games at a strike rate of 109.76 in the ongoing South Africa T20 league.
