MS Dhoni Can Continue After The World Cup – Sourav Ganguly

Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly feels that MS Dhoni can continue his international career even after the upcoming World Cup. He also reveals his Indian squad for the forthcoming World Cup.

The 37-year-old MS Dhoni is a very crucial member of the present Indian limited-overs cricket team. As a wicketkeeper-batsman, he is performing very well for the nation. Moreover, he is successfully guiding the national side with his vast experiences.

Sourav Ganguly feels MS Dhoni can continue his limited-overs international career even after the upcoming World Cup. Though the wicketkeeper-batsman is the 37-year-old, Sourav Ganguly thinks that talent is the primary factor.

England and Wales will host the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup from 30th May to 14th July.

Sourav Ganguly told PTI, “Dhoni can continue after the World Cup. If India wins the Cup and Dhoni performs consistently then why should he retire. Age is never a factor if talent is there.”

Sourav Ganguly feels that the pace bowlers will play an essential factor in the forthcoming World Cup. Meanwhile, he is confident on the Indian pace bowling attack.

He said, “The Indian pace attack is fantastic. Whether its Bumrah or Shami, the Indian pacers are performing consistently. The pacers will play an important factor for the team in England.”

Sourav Ganguly is happy with the limited-overs’ opening partners Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan. Talking about the reserve opener, the former Indian captain chooses KL Rahul.

He added, “The opening combination should not be tweaked. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are the ideal pair to give India a fast start. But KL Rahul is also there. Shikhar and Rohit should open. Other than the two, Rahul is another batsman who can open.”

According to Sourav Ganguly, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli should bat in his best position – at no.3. Talking about the next three batsmen, he named Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav respectively.

Sourav Ganguly quoted, “Virat is being Virat. He is on top of his game. Virat should bat in is usual number 3 slot. Rayudu at 4, Dhoni at 5 and Kedar at number 6.”

The former Indian captain is not confident on Ravindra Jadeja. He believes that the spin-bowling all-rounder shouldn’t be in the World Cup team.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly praised the pace-bowling all-rounder Vijay Shankar. He feels that the 28-year-old deserves to feature in the forthcoming World Cup.

He said, “Ravindra Jadeja should not be in the World Cup team. Vijay Shankar bowled beautifully in the Nagpur match. I think Vijay deserves his World Cup spot.”

India are one of the favourites for sure

In overall, Sourav Ganguly is confident on this present Indian national cricket team. According to him, India will begin the upcoming World Cup tournament as one of the favourite sides.

However, the former Indian captain is also excited about the Windies, New Zealand and the Sri Lankan side. He feels that the upcoming World Cup will provide superb contest on the field.

He said, “India are one of the favourites for sure. But West Indies, New Zealand, Sri Lanka are also there in the mix. Recently Sri Lanka have been in terrific form. They defeated South Africa. I think it will be a superb World Cup.”
