Difficult to play a Day-Night test: Phil Simmons 1
Phil Simmons

The coach of West Indies cricket team has proposed that playing a Day-Night test will be a task difficult for the West Indies team. A few days ago it was reported that the West Indies team might play a Day-Night test during their visit to U.A.E.  this September. The coach did not deny playing a Day-Night- test but he urges that the match should be played in the best situation.  In a recent interview with Cricbuzz Simmons expressed his concerns on this issue and said “It’s going to hard for us because we have not played enough day night cricket down here to test the ball and to know what happens in the night”

“But we were told ICC wants everybody to try and play day-night cricket, so you don’t really have a choice. Pakistan said we can have one in UAE, so I have to wait and see what happens, then judge. I didn’t see the one in Adelaide but the guys (Australian players) told me it was good from a crowd point of view. But a lot of players say they are a lot of things that need to be fixed. You have to have the right conditions, the wicket has to be green because the ball is going to be damaged too quickly, little things like that. So I hope everything is taken into consideration and the potential match is done well.” pronounced Simmons.

Simmons has finally commented on this issue after much time. In the month of May during AGM of WICB, it was decided that the cricket department will analyse all the pro and corns of the Day-night test. It was asked to check the practicability of a Day-Night test.

The Day-Night test is receiving a mixed response as some teams are eager to play a Day-Night test whereas others are reluctant to play it. Recently the Indian team cancelled the Day-Night test in the home series against New Zealand. Though no official announcement was made to play Day-Night test but there were speculations that this might happen.

Currently, the West Indies team is placed at eighth rank in the ICC test ranking. West Indies team is scheduled to play a four-match test match home series against India. A win in this series will improve their position in the ICC rankings but a loss can lead to a downfall too.
