Dinesh Karthik Reckons Ravindra Jadeja Is “Not Reckless Kid Anymore”

Dinesh Karthik feels that, unlike his early days, Ravindra Jadeja is not that “reckless kid” anymore as he bats with a lot of intelligence, especially in white-ball cricket, adding that the player can bat at No. 6 or even 5, considering his recent exploits with the bat.

India’s middle-order woes continued in the recently concluded tour of South Africa as they were clean swept in the three-match ODI series by the Proteas. Barring a few batters, India’s batting line-up crumbled against the South African bowling attack and the team failed to win a single ODI.

Dinesh Karthik: Ravindra Jadeja Is Not That Reckless Kid Anymore

While analysing India’s middle-order batting woes, India cricketer Dinesh Karthik said that someone like spin bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the series due to an injury, could win games for India, having batted so well for the team recently.

Ravindra Jadeja has played 57 Tests, 168 ODIs, and 55 T20I matches for the Indian side.

“Jadeja is ready to bat at No.6. In fact, he is batting so well that he can play at No.5 as well. He is using his brain and is not that reckless kid anymore. He is someone who is winning games with the bat. In fact, in white-ball cricket, his stronger suit is his batting,” Dinesh Karthik said.

Weighing in on India’s middle-order scenario, especially the all-rounder’s position, veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik feels Ravindra Jadeja is the ideal candidate to bat at No. 6. Ravindra Jadeja is currently out injured, having suffered a right forearm injury during the first Test against New Zealand last year.

The official Twitter handle of the BCCI confirmed that Ravindra Jadeja is in the final stage of recovery from his knee injury, and as a result, will miss the limited-overs series against the West Indies. The BCCI also confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested for the series as well.

Deepak Hooda, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel Named For West Indies Limited Overs Squads

After losing the Test as well as the ODI series against South Africa, the Indian team will look to bounce back during the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies at home. India and West Indies will play three ODIs, followed by as many T20Is between February 6 and 20. The ODIs will be played in Ahmedabad while the T20Is will be played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

India’s limited-overs squad selection for the upcoming home assignments against the West Indies marked the return of an old template, wrist-spin taking centre-stage again. After a long hiatus, Kuldeep Yadav is back to the 50-over fold to pair up with Yuzvendra Chahal, while Ravichandran Ashwin hasn’t been included either in the ODI squad or for the T20Is.

Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, has earned his maiden India call-up in T20Is which suggested that the selectors and the team management have seen wrist-spin as a wicket-taking option in the middle-overs. Another spin-bowling all-rounder, Deepak Hooda, has made the ODI cut for the first time. Pacers Avesh Khan and Harshal Patel, top wicket-takers in IPL 2021 were also included in T20Is.

ODI squad: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohd.
