Dreams Do Not Let You Sleep, Says Ravindra Jadeja After Starring In Second Test Against Sri Lanka

Ravindra Jadeja once again proved his worth with a brilliant allround display in India’s mammoth win against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Colombo on Sunday (August 6). The left-arm spinner, who has become an indispensable part of the Test team, scored a brilliant unbeaten 70 in the first innings before running through Sri Lanka’s batting lineup in the second innings as India wrapped up the three-match series with a comprehensive innings and 53 runs win.

At 241 for 3, Sri Lanka were looking set to post a big total in their second innings before Jadeja changed the course of the game by dismissing captain Dinesh Chandimal for just 2. A 69-run stand between Dimuth Karunaratne and Angelo Mathews steadied the ship for the hosts but Jadeja put the visitors firmly in command by dismissing both in quick succession. He was not done yet and dismissed Dilruwan Perera and Dhananjaya de Silva cheaply to all but seal the game for India as Sri Lanka were reduced to 343 for 8. India went on to win the game with utmost ease and Jadeja was adjudged the Man of the Match for his decisive spell in the second innings of the game.

Captain Virat Kohli also lavished praise on the allrounder during the post-match conference.

“Guys who have both abilities are very rare to find. That’s where we think they’re very precious, specially in the longer format because they provide you with great balance. He can give you a very quick 60-70 anywhere at any stage of the game, it can really turn the game. Remember Lord’s, remember Dharamsala against Australia, those are very important innings, the 90 against England in Mohali. So it’s not just when the batters are doing well, his runs have come under pressure,” Kohli said.

“Also, he has the ability, he believes in it and he’s worked extra hard in the last 10-12 months on his batting. He’s bowled so much that the other discipline was left behind, but now he’s catching up in that as well. It’s only going to do good to him. If he doesn’t bowl well on a particular day, he can score runs. Once he scores runs, then he gets confidence with the ball also. He’s always in the game, his fielding as well. I would say he’s a very valuable cricketer for us,” he added.

Meanwhile, delighted with his performance, Jadeja took to Twitter to say that he is reaping the reward for the hard work he has done over the years. Posting the picture of himself with the Man of the Match trophy, he tweeted: “Dreams is not what you see in sleep is the thing which doesn’t let you sleep #hardwork.”
