ENG Vs IND, 2018: India Has a Good Bench Strength in Pace Bowling, Says Zaheer Khan
Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan believes Virat Kohli-led side has sufficient bench strength to fill in the spot, in the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming Test series against England.
Meanwhile, India will play a five-match Test series against the Three Lions commencing on August 1. The selectors have named Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav and Shardul Thakur in the squad for the first three Tests in the 18-man list.
However, Bumrah will be available for selection from the second Test slated for Lord’s. They also have Hardik Pandya is in their ranks. Zaheer feels the seamers will do well even in the absence of their two premiere seamers.
“I believe whichever bowlers will play – like Umesh (Yadav) is doing well. Ishant (Sharma) is a senior bowler and has to take more lead (role). And Mohammed Shami has a good record. I believe their (Bhuvi and Bumrah’s) absence will be there, but still India’s bench strength is very strong,” Zaheer said.
Zaheer also seconded Sachin Tendulkar’s view that this is the most potent bowling attack India has availed in the recent times.
“Yes absolutely. If you see the style, with the style of each bowler, you can say it is an accomplished attack because, in different conditions, different bowlers impress more,” he added.
The left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan also admitted dominant India needs to play well throughout the series. He also added that it will be a long series and the team needs to stick together.
In conclusion, he hoped the team performs consistently and the bowlers remain fit to register glory.
