Former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar thrashed the Pakistan Test team who lost the first match against England in Manchester. Pakistan are playing a 3 match test series against England. England are currently leading the series by 1-0 after they won the first match in Manchester by 3 wickets.
Pakistan put up an impressive 329 on the board in the first innings, England were all out at 219 in the chase. However, Pakistani batsman couldn’t capitalize on the 107 runs lead and all slumped for 169 in the second innings. A stupendous partnership in the 6th wicket by Chris Woakes and Joe Roe root for 139 runs led to be the match-winner for England.
The Batting Lets Us Down Said Shoaib Akhtar On His Youtube Channel
Shoaib Akhtar was furious with his side’s loss in the first test. After gaining an advantage on England they could’ve easily won the match, but the second innings miserable batting cost Pakistan the tie.
“Pakistan got an opportunity to put a big score but they made the same mistake that they have been doing since partition. That the batting lets us down. We needed partnerships, stroke-making only when you get loose balls. It was a great chance for Pakistan to put 350-400 runs on the board,” said Shoaib Akhtar.
Babar Azam Has To Prove To Be A Match Winner
The pacer further ranted that there is enough quality in their batsman but its useless if they don’t win them matches. Shan Masood played a stellar knock of 155 runs in the first innings but was out on a duck in the second innings. Pakistan’s star batsman Babar Azam scored a swift 69 runs in the first innings but couldn’t pull off a similar form in the second inning and was sent to the pavilion at 5 runs.
“But again, none of Pakistan’s star batsmen could score runs. If you have to become a big player and earn a name, these are the situations. If you are not able to capitalize on a 107-run lead, however big a batsman you may be, you are of no use.” he added
“Shan Masood was unlucky but he had already played his part. Asad Shafiq got run out, it is again his fault. But Babar Azam has to come out with something good, because you cannot create a name like this. You might be a good player, but you have to establish yourself as a match-winner.If lead had not been there, then we were dismissed for just 150-175. You have to think what you have to do as a batsman, this is really disappointing,”
A dramatic three-wicket victory for the hosts England in the first test against Pakistan and the credits go to an amazing 139 runs partnership between Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler. England were chasing 277 on the fourth day and at one point were 117/5. The England duo of Chris Woakes and Jos Butler put up stellar knocks of 84 and 75 runs, respectively. The match could have ended on a different note if Pakistani batsman would’ve capitalized on their first-innings lead.
