England’s white-ball tour of India has been postponed until early 2021 as per BCCI’s conformation. England was due to arrive in India at the end of September for a tour involving three ODIs and three T20s. But with the IPL 2020 having been rescheduled to cover the same period, the tour has been put back a few months.
The ICC men’s T20 World Cup which was scheduled to take place in Australia in the months of October and November 2020 has also been postponed due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation in India.
BCCI and ECB Closely Working To Finalize A Schedule Accommodating All Formats
The BCCI and ECB have confirmed that England’s men’s white-ball tour to India also included in ICC Future Tours Program from late September to early October 2020, will be postponed till early 2021.
Mr Jay Shah, Honorary Secretary, BCCI, said: “The BCCI and ECB are working closely to finalise the day-wise schedule as we move towards the resumption of cricket. The India-England series is one of the most anticipated contests in world cricket. The two teams compete hard on the field and provide some riveting moments.”
“I am pleased with the way BCCI and ECB have managed the situation. The rescheduled tour is also being redesigned in a way to accommodate both red and white-ball format and will now be a comprehensive one,” Shah added.
BCCI and ECB are in talks to confirm the 2021 schedule for an all-format England tour which will run from late January to late March along with India’s Test tour to England due in the summer of 2021.
ECB Looking Forward T Work With BCCI To Firm Up The Schedules
It is now anticipated that the white-ball games will be played as part of England’s Test tour scheduled from late January to late March 2021. Five Tests are also scheduled to be played on that tour.
ECB’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tom Harrison, added: “Now that we have clarity regarding the postponement of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, it enables us to work with other Boards to progress the vital task of optimising the international schedules in the challenging circumstances that we have all been having to address with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“International cricket between India and England is a highlight of the cricketing calendar and we look forward to working with BCCI to firm-up the schedules for these eagerly anticipated tours as soon as possible,” he maintained.
International cricket has been affected due to the Covid-19 pandemic and both the Board of Control for Cricket of India and ECB are in talks to reschedule it for a full-fledged format at a later date. The fans will be thrilled to witness both red and white-ball cricket between England and India, instead of the only white-ball leg.
