Top Five Highest Wicket-Takers In ICC Champions Trophy 2013

Under the captaincy of former Indian captain MS Dhoni, India got their hands on the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. They attained victory after defeating the host England in the thrilling grand-finale by five runs.

India had earlier won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2002 under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly. They were declared as the joint winners with Sri Lanka as the final of the match was interrupted by rain.

Here, we have discussed the bowlers who picked the most number of wickets in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013.

Ravindra Jadeja:

The bowling allrounder Ravindra Jadeja shined in the international cricket after his terrific performance in the Champions Trophy 2013. He announced his arrival through his performance in the tournament and never looked back after that. He is now the pivotal player for India across all the formats.

In India’s winning campaign in Champions Trophy 2013, he was the highest wicket-taker, picking 12 wickets in five matches at a startling economy rate of 3.37 and an average of 12.83.

Since his record-breaking performance, Jadeja is a regular member of Team India in all the formats. He has so far played 49 Tests, 165 ODIs and 49 T20Is.

The New Zealand pacer Mitchell McClenaghan, who last played for his side in 2018, was the mainstay in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. Although his team could not qualify for the knock out rounds, he had a successful campaign as the player because he was the second-highest wicket-taker in this particular mega event.

The left-arm tall pacer notched up 11 wickets in three matches during the tournament. He was the most economical bowler for Kiwis in the tournament.

However, the pacer has lost his place in the team because he had a long break because of injuries. He has played 48 ODIs and 29 T20Is so far.

The veteran James Anderson is the spearhead of England’s fast bowling attack. He has lost his place in the white-ball cricket but is a crucial player in Test cricket. The 37-year old has proved himself as the most skilful and prolific bowler in England’s history.

In ICC Champions Trophy 2013, he was the highest wicket-taker for England and the third-highest overall. He latched 11 wickets in five matches at the economy rate of 4.08 and an average of 13.72.

Anderson lost his place in white-ball cricket in 2015 but he has constantly gained success in the most extended format for the game. So far, he has featured in 151 Test matches and picked 584 wickets.

Ishant Sharma is currently the most experienced fast bowler in Team India. In the peak of his career, he was the leading wicket-taker across all the formats. He is now the red-ball specialist player and has played over 90 Test matches.

In the Champions Trophy 2013, his masterpiece in the grand finale against England led India to lift the trophy. He picked eleven wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 5.73 and at an average of 13.72 in the whole tournament.

In the grand finale, he crushed the partnership of Ravi Boapar and Joe Root and picked three wickets which guided the team to triumph.

South Africa’s bowling allrounder Ryan Mclaren didn’t have a long career because of injuries. When he made comeback after recovering from injury, he lacked in quality. He represented Proteas in 54 ODIs and 12 T20Is and last played in 2014.

In the Champions Trophy 2013, he was the highest wicket-taker for the team though his team failed to qualify for the semi-final. He notched up eight wickets in four matches at the economy rate of 5.44 an average of 18.54.

He was dropped from the team for his inconsistency and competition in the team.
