Gautam Gambhir Donates His Two-Year Salary to PM CARES Fund

The coronavirus cases in India are increasing at a rapid speed even though the government has announced 21-day lockdown. The lockdown has thrown normal routine into limbo as thousands of daily wage workers are left unemployed. To support the government and needy people, celebrities are coming forward as they are donating money in relief funds. Former Indian cricketer and politician Gautam Gambhir has announced to donate his two-year salary to Prime Minister’s, Cares Fund.

Earlier, the 2011 World Cup winner pledged a month’s salary for the cause and also released INR  crore from his MPLAD fund. And now he has decided to further donate his salary.

Gambhir has also urged people to contribute as much as they can to combat the deadly virus which has taken the lives of 50 people in India.

“People ask what can their country do for them. The real question is what can you do for your country? I am donating my 2 year’s salary to #PMCaresFund. You should come forward too,” Gambhir said.

The cricketer-turned-politician Gautam has always come in support for the noble cause. He has also done many charitable works in the past.

Many other cricket personalities have done their part. Sachin Tendulkar donated 25 Lakhs each in PM’s Care fund and Maharashtra Chief Minister Relief Fund. Virat Kohli and his wife Anushka also pledged to donate in relief funds.

Taking to Twitter, Rohit Sharma also informed that he has donated INR 45 lakh to Prime Minister Cares Fund and INR 25 lakh to Maharastra Chief Minister Relief Fund.  Moreover, he has also donated money to different welfare organizations. The vice-captain has contributed INR 5 lakh each to Feeding India and for the Welfare of Stray Dogs.

Apart from Rohit, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ajinkya Rahane also donated some amount of money to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Brothers Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan donated over 4,000 masks in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
