Gautam Gambhir Fails, Shikhar Dhawan Shows Positive Signs In Ranji Trophy

After being axed from the Indian squad for the last three Test against England, Gautam Gambhir failed in the Ranji Trophy as well as the discarded opener could just play an innings of 10 and 2 against Rajasthan at Wayanad. Opening the innings along with Shikhar Dhawan, Gautam Gambhir made a slow start. Soon the opening bowlers were able to put Gambhir under pressure and dismissed him on just a score of 10 but Shikhar Dhawan showed good reflexes scoring 38 runs off 51 deliveries. Delhi gained a lead 69 runs in the first innings.

Delhi bowlers continued their brilliant form in the second innings as well dismissing Rajasthan on a total of 221, Delhi had an easy target of 154 to chase with more than 100 overs left in the game.

It was a perfect platform for Gautam Gambhir to chase the target along with Shikhar Dhawan sending a strong message to the selectors but his rough form continued in the second innings as well, he was dismissed on just a score of two. With this poor run in both the innings, he himself proved the selectors right who made a decision to axe him from the squad. However, Shikhar Dhawan showed signs of being in the form in the second innings as well Dhawan scored 49 runs with the bat. Despite a good show from him, at one point it looked like will lose the shame but the veteran all-rounder Sumit Narwal and Nitish Rana made crucial contributions today to help team Delhi stamp a tight win over Rajasthan.

Delhi still has two games to go in the tournament and Gambhir has to notch up to the highest level in order to see any hope of making a comeback in the team or else it could be a permanent exile for Gautam Gambhir.
