Well, one of the red-hot debates in the Indian Cricket is about the retirement of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The Ex-skipper of the Indian team MS Dhoni was expected to call curtains of the ICC World Cup 2019 but interestingly, he is yet to announce anything regarding his future in the tournament. Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir names three replacements for MS Dhoni in order to groom for the future.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir feels that it is the right time to groom youngsters keeping the 2023 World Cup in mind. Gambhir expressed his opinion amidst rumours surrounding Dhoni’s retirement from international cricket after India’s exit from World Cup 2019 in the semi-final against New Zealand.
Time to be practical – Gautam Gambhir on MS Dhoni retirement
Further, he added that it’s important to be practical than emotional when it comes to taking a call on the future of MS Dhoni’s international cricket. Gambhir pointed out that MS Dhoni, during his time as captain, always wanted to look into the future and gave youngsters a lot of opportunities.
“It’s important to look into the future. And when Dhoni was the skipper, he invested in the future. I remember Dhoni saying in Australia that me, Sachin and Sehwag can’t play the CB series together as the grounds were big. He wished for young players for the World Cup. It’s necessary to take practical decisions than being emotional,” Gambhir was quoted as saying in TV9 Bharatvarsh.
Chance to give an opportunity to youngsters:
Gautam Gambhir named the talented Kerala batsman Sanju Samson to have a look-in alongside the Delhi left-handed batsman Rishabh Pant. He also named the Jharkhand Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, who also performed brilliantly in the domestic cricket.
“And India now have a chance to give opportunities to youngsters. Be it Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan or any other wicketkeeper. Whoever is believed to have the potential should be made the wicket-keeper. Give him chances for one and half-years. If he doesn’t perform, then others should be tried out as well. Then one would get to know who the keeper for the next World Cup is,” Gambhir added.
Well, it would be interesting to see whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni will continue in the International Cricket or not. There are quite a few fans, who want to see him play ICC T20I World Cup 2020 while a few want him to call curtains on his career.
India will travel to West Indies to play a series consisting of 3 T20Is and as many ODIs that starts on August 3. It has been speculated Dhoni might not be picked for the series. There are also reports that MS Dhoni has asked selectors to not consider him for the series.
