Gautam Gambhir Reveals The Knock That Changed His Career
Gautam Gambhir will always have a special place in the history of Indian cricket. The southpaw from Delhi, who announced his retirement from all forms of the game last year, played two of the most important innings in India’s history. Gambhir was one of the most sought after players in the world in the second half of the last decade. He was an integral part of the team across all the three formats and was also one of the batting mainstays.
Gautam Gambhir was the top-scorer when India beat Pakistan in the final of the inaugural World T20. Four years later, he starred again when India took on Sri Lanka in the final of the 50-over World Cup. Chasing 275 in the 2011 World Cup final was always going to be tough for India against a quality bowling opposition like Sri Lanka and the dismissal of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar with only 31 runs on the board made the task even more gigantic.
Another wicket would have put India in a serious trouble but Gautam Gambhir brought in all his experience and played a majestic innings to bail the Men in Blue out of trouble.
His 122-ball 97 runs knock put India on the threshold of a historic win before MS Dhoni played another gem of an innings, scoring 91 runs off just 79 balls to ensure Gambhir’s performance did not go in vain as India lifted the holy grail of cricket after a long wait of 28 years.
The second half of Gautam Gambhir’s career did not pan out as expected as he found himself out of the the team due to the poor. He made a brief return to the national team in 2016 before retiring last year. He finished his career with close to 10,000 runs with the help of 20 tons and several other memorable knocks.
Well, the legendary batsman recently revealed the knock that transformed his career. Star Sports recently posted a clip on their Twitter handle where Gautam Gambhir could be seen saying his ‘*GameBanayegaName’ moment was his maiden ODI ton which came against Sri Lanka.
