The bilateral relation between India and Pakistan is at an all time low and it has very much affected the cricketing ties between the two countries too. The fierce rivals have not played a Test series against each other since 2007.
The last bilateral series between them took place during the 2012/13 season when Pakistan visited India for a short limited-overs tour. Since then, both the countries have only played against each other in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup. And the relation between them is in the limelight once again in the wake of the Asia Cup controversy.
With Pakistan getting the hosting rights for the competition, the BCCI announced that Team India would not visit the country. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to boycott the World Cup later this year scheduled to take place in India before the Asian Cricket Council accepted the hybrid model. And while Pakistan are now likely to visit India for the World Cup, it looks like not everyone in their country want them to do so.
Javed Miandad lashes out at India:
Pakistan great Javed Miandad has lashed out at India, expressing his disappointment with the BCCI for their refusal to visit his country for Asia Cup 2023. The former batsman urged Pakistan to reciprocate by refusing to travel to India for the 2023 World Cup. He also argued that Pakistan cricket is superior to that of India before stating that India can go to hell.
“If it was up to me I would simply refuse. It is India’s turn right now. We went there and now India are supposed to come and play cricket in Pakistan,” Miandad said while talking to media.
“If it was me, I would say go to hell India. We are better than them. Our cricket is better than them. We have enough money and grounds. We are producing talents that are making their name in the entire world,” he added.
Speaking further, Miandad pointed out the importance of sports, saying that it helps builds relationships between nations. He then expressed his disappointment with India’s behavior, particularly calling out Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Sports is something that unites people. It is used to build relations between two countries,” he said. India’s behaviour is not acceptable. Especially, [Narendra] Modi, the day will come when their own people will beat him because he is going in a different direction. You cannot change your neighbours.”
“Pakistan cricket is BEGGER (bigger)… we are still producing quality players. India can go to hell. I don’t think even if we don’t go to India, it will make any difference to us. Mudi is destroying his country, he is going in different direction. one day his own people will kill… pic.twitter.com/y0lcXcMVEr
